Job Description
The Caswood Group is hiring pediatric Registered Nurses to work long term in a supervisory position E/N. This is a professional nursing position involving responsibility for providing nursing care that may include bedside and/or clinical care to convalescent, chronically ill, and seriously ill patients in a health care facility, an outpatient clinic or a public health setting. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of a Nurse Manager, or other higher-level staff member. General supervision may be exercised over professional nurses and other subordinate staff. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (All need not be performed in a given position. Other related activities may be performed although not listed.)
- Develops, implements and evaluates the nursing regimen for patients/residents on the nursing unit;
- Observes, records, reports and interprets patients'/residents' responses to measures which restore, maintain or promote health and well being;
- Transcribes and implements physicians' orders;
- Conducts and/or participates in team conferences for planning and evaluating nursing care;
- Provides nursing care to patients/residents who require their professional skill and judgment;
- Identifies those components of nursing care which may be delegated to allied nursing personnel, and provides them with teaching and guidance;
- Communicates and collaborates with members of the health care team and other departments;
- Maintains an awareness of patient/resident status, recognizes and reports adverse signs, and takes authorized action relating to patient care;
- Participates in discharge planning and provides related instruction and/or counseling to patients/residents and/or families and significant others consistent with the instructions of the responsible medical practitioner;
- Provides for the education of patients/residents, families and significant others in preventive, curative and/or rehabilitative measures;
- Participates in determining conditions, resources and policies essential to delivery of optimal quality nursing care;
- Assumes responsibility and authority for the nursing unit in the absence of the Nurse Manager;
- Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education and other relevant learning experiences;
- Maintains and supervises the keeping of accurate, current patient/residence records;
- Assists with the orientation of new staff on the nursing unit;
- Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary committees, as assigned;
- Participates in defining, maintaining and interpreting standards of nursing practice.
Registered Nurse Performs the following for client:
- Participates in community assessments and planning;
- Participates in facility emergency responses as required;
- Provides teaching and/or counseling to clients;
- Participates in Quality Assurance and Improvement activities;
- Obtains histories, performs chart reviews, screening tests and nursing assessments, and documents in the electronic medical record.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of nursing techniques and their relation to medical practice; ability to assume responsibility for the care of patients, ability to provide teaching and guidance to allied nursing personnel; ability to successfully carry out prescribed therapeutic measures; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to keep accurate records/reports; supervisory ability; ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: New York State Active/Unencumbered License as a Registered Nurse.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Candidates will be required to have a valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
