Ready to lead, innovate, and elevate clinical training across Maryland's premier reproductive healthcare team? Planned Parenthood of Maryland (PPM) is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and adult-learning-focused Training Manager to lead training and development for our non-licensed clinical support staff - primarily Medical Assistants (MAs) and clinical support team members - across our seven health centers and telehealth operations. If you are an experienced learning and development leader passionate about building sustainable, skills-based training pathways, empowering trainers and preceptors, and ensuring an uncompromising standard of high-quality, patient-centered care, we want you on our team!
Inside the RoleReporting directly to the Senior Director of Clinical Operations, the Training Manager serves as the strategic architect and operational leader of our clinical training programs. In this role, you will design, implement, and evaluate a standardized, competency-based learning model that combines classroom instruction, virtual modules, clinical simulation, and structured on-the-job precepting. You will directly supervise and coach a team of Health Center Trainers, cultivate a robust site-based preceptor network, and partner cross-departmentally with Health Center Managers, HR, Clinical Leadership, and Operations. Your mission is to create scalable, high-impact training pathways that shorten time-to-competency, boost new-hire retention, and ensure consistent clinical standards across all PPM health centers.
Your Day-to-Day ImpactDesign & Execute Training Strategy: Build and manage standardized, adult-learning curricula, facilitator guides, simulation scenarios, and skills assessments for MAs and clinical support roles across all health centers.
Lead & Develop Trainers: Directly supervise, schedule, and coach Health Center Trainers, observing their facilitation and ensuring training delivery is consistent and high-quality across all locations.
Build & Manage a Preceptor Network: Establish and nurture a site-based preceptor program; train and support experienced Medical Assistants and clinical staff to act as effective preceptors and floor coaches.
Standardize Onboarding & Competencies: Drive new-hire clinical onboarding with clear 30/60/90-day milestones; maintain an organization-wide skills matrix to track individual competencies and identify site or skill-level trends.
Drive Continuous Improvement: Develop individualized remediation plans for skill gaps, track training metrics (time-to-competency, retention, first-pass rates), and continuously update materials as clinical workflows, technology, or regulations change.
Collaborate Cross-Departmentally: Serve as the primary clinical training partner for Health Center Managers, HR, Quality, Compliance, and Clinical Leadership during new service rollouts, EHR updates, and operational expansions.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Organizational Development, Instructional Design, Healthcare Administration, Business, HR, or related field required. (Master’s degree in Adult Education, Instructional Design, or Healthcare Administration strongly preferred).
Experience:
- 3 to 5+ years of experience in employee training, learning & development, instructional design, or healthcare clinical training.
- Experience supervising, coaching, or mentoring trainers, educators, or preceptors.
- Demonstrated ability to apply adult-learning theory to create competency-based learning paths, simulation exercises, and skills validation tools.
- Prior experience leading clinical or MA training in a multi-site ambulatory care, community health, or reproductive healthcare environment.
- Ability to travel regularly among PPM health centers across Maryland. Must possess a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
- Experience using data, such as time-to-competency, assessment results, and retention, to measure training effectiveness and drive improvements.
- Exceptional presentation and writing skills, strong analytical abilities to diagnose performance gaps versus training needs, project management rigor, and a deep commitment to high-quality, equitable, patient-centered care.
Comprehensive Coverage: Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance.
Income Protection: Life, AD&D, and Short-Term/Long-Term Disability coverage.
Work-Life Harmony: Generous Paid Time Off (PTO), 10 Paid Holidays, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
Future Focus: 401(k) Retirement Plan with Employer Match and Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
Growth & Professional Development: Annual CME/CEU or development opportunities.
