▪ Position Overview
Join HD Hyundai Power Transformers USA as a Mechanical Engineer and help develop the mechanical design of large power transformers from customer requirements through manufacturing release. This role works closely with electrical and control design, project engineering, purchasing, quality, suppliers, and manufacturing to deliver safe, reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective designs.
▪ Key Responsibilities
- Develop 2D/3D mechanical layouts, models, customer drawings, and manufacturing drawings using AutoCAD, Siemens NX, or equivalent CAD tools.
- Design transformer tanks, covers, stiffeners, conservators, radiators/coolers, piping, platforms, brackets, lifting lugs, jacking pads, pulling eyes, and related mechanical components.
- Verify internal/external clearances, interfaces, foundation requirements, shipping configurations, manufacturability, and site/transport constraints.
- Perform or support mechanical calculations for pressure/vacuum, structural strength, lifting/jacking, transportation, seismic and wind loading; use FEA when required.
- Prepare and maintain BOMs, material specifications, drawings, calculations, and project documentation.
- Interpret customer specifications and applicable IEEE/ANSI/IEC requirements and incorporate them into practical mechanical designs.
- Coordinate with engineering, quality, purchasing, suppliers, and manufacturing to resolve technical and manufacturability issues.
- Provide engineering support to fabrication, assembly, testing, field service, and production, including root-cause investigation and corrective actions.
- Support standardization, design-for-manufacturing, cost reduction, and on-time completion of assigned engineering deliverables.
▪ Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering field.
- Minimum 3 years of mechanical design experience in power transformer manufacturing or comparable heavy electrical/mechanical equipment.
- Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software such as AutoCAD and Siemens NX, Creo, Inventor, or similar.
- Working knowledge of fabricated steel structures, welded assemblies, pressure/vacuum loading, lifting, transportation, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations and interpret analysis results; familiarity with ANSYS, Nastran, or similar FEA tools.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, standards, and manufacturing requirements.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities.
▪ Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with medium/large power transformers, autotransformers, generator step-up transformers, or similar high-voltage equipment.
- Knowledge of IEEE C57 / ANSI and IEC 60076 transformer requirements.
- Experience with transformer tank/external design, cooling arrangements, transport/shipping design, seismic/wind requirements, or production issue resolution.
- Familiarity with SAP or another ERP/BOM system.
