Job Description
The Practice Support Specialist provides reliable transportation for the practice owner and practical support to the clinical team at our dermatology and Mohs surgery practices.
Each workday, the employee will travel from their home to the practice owner’s home in Mt. Airy, Maryland. Using the owner’s vehicle, the employee will drive him to the Leesburg or Winchester location, depending on his schedule, and return him home at the end of his workday.
While at the practice, the employee will assist medical assistants with room turnover, instrument processing, supply preparation, inventory management, and other assigned tasks. This position helps keep the clinical team organized, stocked, and prepared throughout the day.
Primary Responsibilities
Transportation
- Travel from the employee’s home to the practice owner’s home in Mt. Airy, Maryland, arriving at the designated time.
- Use the practice owner’s vehicle to drive him to the scheduled practice location in Leesburg or Winchester, Virginia.
- At the end of the owner’s workday, drive him back to his home in his vehicle. The employee will then travel home using their own transportation.
- Plan routes and account for traffic, weather, and other conditions to support timely arrival.
- Drive safely, follow traffic laws, and maintain professional conduct.
- Keep the owner’s vehicle clean and orderly, monitor fuel levels, and promptly report maintenance needs or vehicle concerns.
- Communicate promptly about delays or changes affecting transportation.
- Maintain discretion regarding conversations, personal information, and practice matters encountered during transportation.
- Clean, disinfect, and prepare examination and procedure rooms between patients according to practice protocols.
- Restock rooms with supplies needed for patient visits and procedures.
- Collect, clean, package, and sterilize instruments according to established procedures.
- Maintain instrument processing records and promptly report equipment concerns.
- Prepare supplies and procedure materials as directed by the clinical team.
- Assist with filling and labeling syringes only after required training and authorization, under designated clinical supervision and according to practice protocols.
- Support room readiness and workflow so medical assistants can focus on patient care.
- Handle waste, sharps, and contaminated materials according to established procedures.
- Complete other assigned support tasks within the employee’s training and authorized responsibilities.
- Monitor supplies and notify the designated staff member when items need to be reordered.
- Receive, unpack, organize, and distribute supplies.
- Check expiration dates and rotate stock to reduce waste.
- Maintain orderly supply areas, instrument processing areas, and clinical workspaces.
- Assist with inventory counts and movement of supplies between locations as directed.
This is a clinical support position. The employee does not independently assess patients, provide medical advice, administer medications, or perform tasks outside their training and authorization. Daily clinic assignments will be coordinated with the designated clinical lead or Practice Administrator.
Performance Expectations
Success in this role means dependable transportation, rooms and instruments ready when needed, organized supplies, consistent adherence to procedures, and responsive support to the MA team.
Requirements: Qualifications- Valid driver’s license and driving history that meets the practice’s insurance requirements for operating the owner’s vehicle.
- Reliable personal transportation to and from the practice owner’s home in Mt. Airy, Maryland.
- Ability to drive regularly between Maryland and Northern Virginia.
- Strong punctuality, dependability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow written procedures and complete tasks consistently.
- Professional communication skills and respect for confidentiality.
- Willingness to learn infection prevention, instrument processing, and clinical support procedures.
- Previous experience in a medical office, instrument processing, transportation, or a similar support role preferred.
- Availability for early departures and return times that may vary with the owner’s schedule.
- Ability to remain at the assigned practice location and provide support during the owner’s workday.
- Ability to sit for extended driving periods and stand, walk, bend, and move supplies during clinic duties.
- Willingness to use required protective equipment and complete practice-provided training.
