Job Description
13-Week Contract | Full-Time Nights | Bethesda, Maryland
We are seeking one experienced Pediatric Registered Nurse to provide safe, compassionate care at the NIH Clinical Center. This is a 13-week contract assignment with the possibility of a long-term or permanent full-time opportunity based on performance and continued staffing needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Active, valid, and unrestricted RN license issued by at least one U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth
Associate degree, nursing diploma, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN
Two to three years of current pediatric acute-care hospital experience
Current Basic Life Support certification
Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification
ACLS certification if required by the client
Demonstrated current competency in pediatric nursing
Effective English communication skills
Computer literacy and proficiency with electronic clinical documentation
U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident/Green Card status
Primary Responsibilities
Assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate age-appropriate nursing care for pediatric patients
Monitor patient condition and promptly respond to clinical changes or emergencies
Administer medications, fluids, blood products, and treatments as ordered and within the RN’s authorized scope of practice
Calculate and verify weight-based medication dosages
Maintain pediatric safety, infection-control, and emergency-response precautions
Provide developmentally appropriate support to patients
Educate and support parents, guardians, and family members
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, support personnel, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
Follow NIH clinical protocols, patient-safety requirements, and professional standards
Participate in required orientation, training, and competency activities
Float to another area when needed, provided the assignment is within the RN’s demonstrated competency and scope of practice
Additional Requirements
Selected candidates must satisfy NIH credentialing, health, immunization, security, fingerprinting, background-investigation, and facility-access requirements. All required licenses, certifications, competencies, and health documentation must remain current throughout the assignment.
