Job Description
Ideal Steel is seeking an experienced, safety-focused Autoweld Operator to set up and operate automated welding equipment at our Broussard facility. This position monitors the welding process, adjusts equipment settings, inspects completed components, performs basic troubleshooting and maintenance, and records production activity.
The Autoweld Operator works with production employees and leadership to maintain safe, efficient workflows and consistently produce quality metal components.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and calibrate automated welding equipment for production requirements.
- Operate and monitor autoweld machinery and make appropriate process adjustments.
- Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, technical drawings, and production specifications.
- Inspect completed welds and assemblies for accuracy and visible defects.
- Identify nonconforming material and report quality or equipment concerns.
- Perform routine equipment cleaning, basic maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Record material usage, output quantities, and required production information.
- Coordinate with helpers, welders, material handlers, and production leadership.
- Follow all safety requirements, use required PPE, and maintain an organized work area.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance and complete other assigned production duties.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two or more years of experience operating automated welding equipment or similar production machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, work orders, and technical documents.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing quality welds and assemblies.
- Ability to follow safety procedures, production instructions, and quality requirements.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Automated welding, welding, machining, or industrial equipment training preferred.
- Metal fabrication or metal building component manufacturing experience preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing environment. The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, handling materials, and operating production equipment. The position must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds and work around noise, heat, sparks, airborne particles, welding activity, and moving machinery.
