POSITION SUMMARY

Under discretion and independent judgment, the Director of Rehab Services is responsible for ensuring that patient rehabilitative care is coordinated and managed appropriately. He/she is responsible for ensuring that therapy services are delivered appropriately, documentation of therapy services meets all requirements as well as the supervision of therapy professionals. The DRS assists with planning, organizing, and developing the Rehabilitation Services Department. He/she also supervises Occupational Therapy services in accordance with current Title 22, applicable federal, state, and local standards, regulations, and guidelines to ensure the highest degree of quality care is rendered at all times. He/she also provides services for inpatients and special contracts. He/she is responsible for correct policies and procedures in the Rehab Services department, compliance in patient billing and insurance, quality assurance, and patient progress charting in a timely manner. This position does provide direct patient care to adult and geriatric patients, including comprehensive assessment, individual and group treatment, and supervision of treatment delivered by Physical Therapy Assistants, Physical Therapy support staff, Occupational Therapist, COTAs, and Speech Therapist.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Must be currently licensed in Physical, Occupational, or Speech Therapy. Two years management or supervisory experience in a rehabilitation therapy department or program. Complies and maintains current BLS certification. Licensed driver and insured in accordance with organization requirements. Ability to communicate effectively with O.T. staff, interdisciplinary staff, visitors, patients, families, and members of the community.

Requirements:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Receives case referrals. Reviews available patient information related to case, including disciplines required, to determine patients’ needs. Assigns appropriate therapists to case.

• Reviews and evaluates each case by reviewing the services provided by the therapists, including case conferences and documentation review, discusses and verifies impressions, instructs and guides therapists to promote more effective performance and delivery of quality rehab services, and is available at all times during operating hours to assist therapists as appropriate.

• Guides therapists in establishing immediate and long-term rehabilitation goals, in setting priorities, and in developing plan of care.

• Supervises case conference meetings with organization personnel to facilitate coordination of care.

• Conducts quarterly record reviews and communicates findings and recommendations to Leadership, Quality and other appropriate organization personnel and committees.

• Completes on-site evaluations and supervisory visits as necessary.

• Maintain accountability for therapy staff productivity, utilization and documentation standards.

• Assists in the screening and interviewing process of new organization personnel and makes recommendations for employment of individuals. Assists in the orientation of new therapy personnel.

• Assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of in-service and continuing education programs.

• Assists in the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of policies and procedures, as well as strategic goals and objectives. Annually reviews and updates policies and procedures as appropriate.

• Complies with accepted professional standards and principles.

• Supervises all clinical staff for the coordination of the department’s quality improvement and clinical education programs.

• Monitors utilization of staff according to patient load.

• Works with departmental directors/coordinators including CMC, Home Health & GMC to assign and coordinate patient related work duties, resolving any issues that impact daily function in the delivery of patient care services, and evaluating and assuring the quality of work performed in all clinical areas.

• Facilitating change within the department and progress toward the long-term vision of the department.

• Supervises COTAs per California board of Occupational Therapy standards. Ensures Occupational Therapy treatments use safe and proper techniques, remains on call for COTAs during service hours.

• Ensures proper patient billing, keeping current with insurance and Medicare rules and regulations.

• Supervises and performs daily charting, certifications, and quality assurance.

• Conducts the hiring of new employees and is responsible for their orientation.

• Establishes body mechanics-lifting classes for staff and work site analysis.

• Performs other duties as required or assigned.
