About ISI
The International School of Indiana (ISI) is an IB World School serving students ages 3 through grade 12 on its 60-acre Michigan Road campus. In the Lower School, students engage in the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) while immersed in Spanish, French, or Mandarin Chinese language instruction taught by native-speaking faculty. Position SummaryISI is seeking enthusiastic, reliable Lower School Substitute Teachers to support classrooms (Age 3–Grade 5) on an as-needed, day-to-day basis. Substitutes step in to maintain continuity of instruction, implement lesson plans left by classroom or language-immersion teachers, and ensure a safe, engaging, and culturally responsive learning environment in the teacher's absence.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver pre-planned lessons and activities in alignment with the IB Primary Years Programme
- Supervise and support students during classroom instruction, transitions, recess, and lunch
- Maintain classroom routines, structure, and behavior management consistent with ISI expectations
- Communicate clearly with lead teachers, staff, and administration regarding daily progress or concerns
- Support students learning in a language-immersion setting (Spanish, French, or Mandarin), even without fluency in the target language
- Ensure student safety and well-being at all times
- Leave detailed notes for the returning classroom teacher
Substitute teachers are called on an as-needed basis during the school year (approximately August–June), with assignments ranging from single days to longer-term coverage.
Requirements:Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required (Education, Child Development, or related field preferred)
- Prior experience working with elementary-age children (classroom, camp, tutoring, or childcare experience considered)
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Comfort working in a multicultural, multilingual educational environment
- Ability to pass a background check and provide required clearances
- Reliability and flexibility to accept assignments on short notice
Preferred (not required): Proficiency in Spanish, French, or Mandarin Chinese; prior IB/PYP experience.
