Job Description
Tribal Health is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join the Emergency Department team at Red Lake Hospital in Red Lake, Minnesota.
This is an Emergency Department position focused primarily on ESI Level 4 and 5 patients. (This is not a separate Fast Track position). The NP will practice within the ED alongside Emergency Medicine physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary teams while independently evaluating and managing appropriate lower-acuity emergency presentations.
Schedule
- 8- or 9-hour shifts
- Approximately 12:00 PM8:00 PM or 12:00 PM9:00 PM
- Flexible contract scheduling
- Full-time, ongoing contract opportunity
What You'll Do
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat ED patients, primarily ESI Levels 4 and 5
- Perform focused histories and physical examinations
- Order and interpret laboratory studies and diagnostic imaging
- Develop treatment plans and prescribe medications as appropriate
- Perform minor emergency procedures within scope of practice
- Determine appropriate disposition, including discharge or escalation to the Emergency Medicine physician
- Provide patient education and follow-up instructions
- Collaborate with Emergency Medicine physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary departments
- Deliver compassionate, culturally respectful, patient-centered care
Common Presentations & Procedures
You may manage:
- Lacerations and wound care
- Incision & drainage
- Abscesses
- Splinting
- Minor orthopedic injuries
- Foreign body removal
- Minor trauma
- Upper respiratory and ENT complaints
- GI illness
- Rashes and minor dermatologic conditions
- Musculoskeletal complaints
- Other appropriate ESI Level 4 and 5 presentations
Qualifications
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
- Current Nurse Practitioner certification
- Active, unrestricted NP license or ability to obtain Minnesota licensure
- Active DEA registration
- Current BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification
- Minimum 2 years of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner
- Ability to independently evaluate and manage acute patient presentations
Preferred Experience:
- Emergency Medicine
- Urgent Care
- Rural Health
- Family Practice with significant acute-care experience
- Tribal Health or Indian Health Service (IHS)
- Independent clinical practice
- Minor emergency procedures
Who We're Looking For
The ideal provider is comfortable making independent clinical decisions while working collaboratively within an Emergency Department team. You should be confident managing lower-acuity ED presentations, performing minor procedures, and recognizing when a patient's condition requires escalation to an Emergency Medicine physician.
Experience in rural healthcare, Tribal Health, IHS, or other underserved settings is highly valued.
