Phlebotomist

Key Responsibilities:

- Obtain blood specimens through appropriate methods such as fingersticks, venipuncture, arterial draws, and other techniques.

- Collect blood samples from patients of all age groups, including neonates, infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

- Assist in training new personnel to ensure proper collection techniques and safety protocols.

- Post test results when necessary, ensuring timely communication with healthcare providers.

- Manage the department inventory by rotating stock for optimal use and notifying the chief technologist of low supplies.

- Dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with established safety policies, avoiding shortcuts that could compromise safety.

- Respond promptly to work schedule changes and STAT requests, prioritizing urgent needs.

- Maintain a clean and sanitary working environment to ensure safety and compliance with health regulations.

Skills and Qualifications:

- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician or equivalent preferred.

- Proven experience in blood collection techniques from diverse patient populations.

- Knowledge of safety protocols related to hazardous materials and infection control.

- Ability to train and mentor new staff members.

- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.

- Flexibility to respond to schedule changes and urgent requests.

- Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.
