Job Description

Description:

SACA: Southern Arizona Community Academy

The Part-Time Principal is the academic leader of Southern Arizona Community Academy of this small school in Tucson, Arizona. The school serves approximately 40 students onsite and approximately 40 students online, a scope that allows one leader to know every student and every teacher by name. This position leads the instructional staff, conducts formative walkthroughs and formal evaluations, works with the team to implement the policies and procedures set forth in the staff and student handbooks, and meets with parents as needed. The schedule is flexible but fixed, set in advance with the Director and held consistently so that staff, students, and families know when the Principal is on site.

The Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for this position are the schoolwide credits earned rate (CER), completion of the required evaluation and walkthrough cycle for every assigned teacher, and documented follow up on each walkthrough. Success is defined by a school roster averaging 0.5 monthly credits earned per student and by every teacher receiving observation and feedback on the established cadence.

Responsibilities

1. Instructional Leadership: Serve as the academic leader of the school. Set and communicate instructional expectations, lead staff meetings and professional learning, and hold the team accountable for consistent practice across the on site and online programs.

2. Teacher Evaluation: Conduct formal teacher evaluations on the schedule required by the school and by state requirements. Document evidence, deliver clear feedback, set improvement goals, and follow through on plans of improvement when performance does not meet standard.

3. Formative Walkthroughs: Complete regular short cycle walkthroughs in every classroom and learning space. Record what was observed, provide timely feedback to the teacher, and track patterns across the staff to determine what coaching or professional learning is needed next.

4. Handbook Implementation: Work with the team to implement the staff and student handbook guidelines with consistency and fidelity. Address deviations directly, and bring recommended handbook revisions to the Director when a guideline does not work in practice.

5. Parent Engagement: Meet with parents as necessary regarding academic progress, attendance, behavior, and placement. Resolve concerns at the school level when possible and document each meeting and outcome.

6. Student Progress Oversight: Monitor schoolwide student progress data for both the on site and online programs. Identify students off pace, direct staff to targeted interventions, and verify the intervention occurred and produced movement.

7. Culture and Safety: Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful school environment. Oversee student discipline consistent with handbook guidelines, supervise the on site campus during scheduled hours, and support staff in managing student behavior.

8. Compliance Support: Support the Director and operations staff with attendance, enrollment, records, and state reporting requirements as they relate to instruction and staff practice.

9. Perform other related duties as assigned.
