Description:

Overview of position: Monday-Thursday from 7:15am-3:15pm. The English Teaching Assistant will support Lead English teachers at the Whiteman campus in providing small-group instruction, literacy support, and additional classroom assistance for 3rd and 4th grade students. The appointee will also work closely with the 4th grade Multilingual Education (MLE) teacher to provide targeted support for multilingual learners.

This position will split time between 3rd and 4th grade English classrooms and MLE classrooms throughout the week. The appointee will provide literacy support to students across a range of learning needs, with a particular focus on multilingual learners and students receiving Tier 2 interventions.

Denver Language School is seeking to fill this position as soon as possible. The posting will remain live until filled and no later than September 1st. This role is part of the English Department and will report to the Principal and Assistant Principal.

Success in this position will be evaluated based on demonstrated growth in student literacy performance, as reflected in end-of-unit, mid-year and end-of-year benchmark assessments, and the CMAS Language Arts assessment. Success will also be measured by the appointee’s ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students and collaborate effectively with Lead English and MLE teachers. The appointee should demonstrate a willingness to work as part of a team, respond to student needs, and adjust instructional support to promote student literacy development and progress.

Pay and Benefits:

  • Employees at DLS are compensated in accordance with other Denver-area charter schools. The annual salary of $? will be prorated to reflect a later start.

Essential Functions and Objectives

  • Provide small-group and targeted instruction under the direction of the Lead English and MLE Teachers to support students’ literacy development and academic progress.
  • Provide appropriate instructional scaffolds and supports to Multilingual Learners to promote access to grade-level content and language development.
  • Conduct individual student check-ins during whole-group instruction to monitor understanding, engagement, and academic needs.
  • Assist with the administration of 1:1 and small-group assessments and testing accommodations, as directed by the Lead English Teachers.
  • Assist with Type 1 classroom management strategies and behavioral interventions to promote a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.
  • Contribute to an inclusive, equitable, and supportive classroom environment that meets the diverse academic, linguistic, and social-emotional needs of students.
  • Work under the direction of Lead Teachers to prepare small group lessons, support instructional planning, and organize classroom materials. Collaborate with Lead Teachers and, with their guidance, take ownership of planning and implementing interventions.

Skills

  • Knowledge of and familiarity with CKLA or similar Language Arts curriculum
  • Understanding of effective instructional practices for teaching the Five Components of Reading
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the Science of Reading and evidence-based literacy instruction
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with the Lead English Teachers, Multilingual Education Teacher, and English Interventionist to support student learning
  • Ability to support English language development and literacy skills through engaging, student-centered instruction
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to learn, adapt instruction, and contribute to a positive and inclusive classroom environment

Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 2+ years of experience working with elementary aged students
  • Background in elementary education, teaching, reading interventions, phonics instruction.
  • Has obtained or ability to obtain the READ Act Teacher Training required by CDE
