Reporting directly to the DoO, the plant manager is specifically responsible for deploying and implementing organization improvement strategies as outlined while taking the lead as the head of the production facility. The successful candidate will have the following skillsets:

Develop and execute innovative business plans that drive growth and efficiency in areas of accountability.

  • Build, develop and lead a strong, progressive team to ensure continual growth of the assigned business unit.
  • Implement and maintain plant operations, reporting on performance, and developing and initiating process improvements to optimize efficiency and quality.
  • Guide the management team in developing solutions for improving processes, maintaining facilities, and innovative problem-solving.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and management support to the current Production Line Supervisors and Line Leaders to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Cultivate an environment of change and install a sense of accountability throughout the departments with an influential management style.
  • Develop and improve processes, procedures, and efficiency with a strong understanding of industry best practices.
  • Implement performance metrics while maintaining a continual "Organizational Enhancement" mindset to drive growth and innovation.
  • Cultivate a positive collaboration environment by empowering, motivating, and inspiring staff to achieve their full potential.

Core Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in meat processing operations management with a focus on efficiency, quality, and safety in a Canadian context in small to medium size food manufacturer.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with HACCP, GMP, and SSOP programs in accordance with Canadian standards.
  • Knowledge of industry trends and best practices in meat processing in Canada.
  • Six Sigma green or black belt certification.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage a team of supervisors, line leaders, and other staff in a Canadian workplace environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders in Canada.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and solve complex issues within the Canadian meat processing industry.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a focus on safety and quality in Canada.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with ERP systems used in Canada.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and building structure: The Plant Manager must be comfortable operating in a dynamic environment where formal processes and structures are still evolving. A key part of this role is the ability to establish, develop, and implement operational systems, processes, and standards to drive consistency, efficiency, and long-term scalability within the plant.
  • Attention to detail: The plant manager should have strong attention to detail to ensure that products meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Leadership: They should be able to lead and develop a team of supervisors, line leaders, and other staff to drive innovation and growth. Which showcases strong leadership “Gravitas”
  • Technical expertise: The plant manager should have technical expertise in meat processing operations and be able to apply this knowledge to drive innovation and efficiency. Industry experience within the meat industry is preferred
  • Analytical thinking: They should have strong analytical skills to identify problems, evaluate options, and make data-driven decisions. Specifically, a professional with the ability to provide proactive, forward-thinking ideas to support future operations
  • Safety focus: They should prioritize safety and compliance with regulatory requirements to ensure a safe working environment for employees and quality products for customers.
  • Communication: They should have excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with cross-functional teams, external stakeholders, and employees at all levels of the organization. Excellent written and verbal skills are required
  • Adaptability: They should be able to adapt to changes in the industry, market, or company and adjust their strategies accordingly. The plant is undergoing massive changes with its transformation, and the ability to quickly pivot is crucial
  • Passion: The manager should have a passion for the industry and a desire to drive change and improvement. The owners believe in the product and the business, so they expect the same
  • Accountability: They should take ownership of their decisions and actions and hold themselves accountable for their results.
