Job Title: Nurse Practitioner
Job Description
Summary
The person in this position functions in the Clinic and/or OR setting under the supervision of his/her assigned physician; may perform activities which involve an initial evaluation and treatment of the patient’s condition, as defined in the scope of the State of Illinois standards.
Responsibilities
Hospital/Surgical Activities
- Secures patients’ history and physical and records same in medical record
- Assists surgeon with daily rounds and records such as progress notes
- Ensures the delivery of required patient x-rays to the operating room prior to operative procedure
- Assists the surgeon with major and minor surgical procedures in the operating room.
- Positions, preps and drapes the patient, as needed
- Closes surgical wounds and performs post-operative wound care, removal of K-wires, etc.
- Transmits supervising surgeon’s orders and ensures co-signature by surgeon
- Inserts foley catheters, prn
- Applies dressings, casts, splint brace, abduction pillows, etc.
- Participates in on-call activities with assigned physician according to the Medical Center policy on allied health
- Performs minor surgical procedures within scope of licensure
- Performs and/or assists with patient traction, adjustment, realignment and removal of traction
- Dictates H&P’s, consultations and discharge summaries
Clinic Activities
- Performs joint aspirations/injections
- Interprets x-rays
- Applies casts, splints, braces, etc. under supervision of the physician
- Secures histories and physicals. Updates status of patients scheduled for recheck visits.
- Removes staples, sutures, drains, etc.
- Sees patients in the clinic both independently and with supervision
- Dictates clinic progress notes. Orders appropriate tests and develops patient treatment plans with physician approval
Other Functions
- Performs clinical research, presentations, and other academic activities, as needed with physicians
- Assists in fielding/triaging physician calls
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Education
- Master of Science in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Program
Certifications/Licensure
- Active Licensure as Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner in the State of Illinois
- ACLS desirable; current CPR required
Experience
- History of exhibited competence, judgment, stability and professional integrity
Technical Skills
- Able to speak/write English language fluently; knowledge of second language helpful but not required
Soft Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
Physical Requirements
- Stand or sit for extended periods of time
- Occasional exposure to electrical and chemical hazards
- Requires lifting associated with patient transfers (up to 50 lbs.)
- Requires the ability to bend and stoop without difficulty
- Involves exposure to blood-borne pathogens
- Requires verbal/written communication ability in the English language
- Involves exposure to weather elements and travel to all associations. Hospitals and/or HOA facilities

Base salary offers for this position may vary based on factors such as location, skills and relevant experience.
