You will collaborate closely with brokers, producers, and internal underwriting teams to support efficient policy issuance and portfolio growth. The environment is highly collaborative, fast-paced, and focused on innovation in digital insurance distribution. This is a senior-level role where your judgment directly impacts risk selection, pricing strategy, and long-term portfolio performance.

Accountabilities:

Evaluate and underwrite workers’ compensation insurance applications by analyzing risk exposures, financial data, and industry-specific characteristics to determine appropriate pricing, coverage terms, and acceptability.

  • Review new business, renewals, and policy change requests while applying underwriting guidelines and risk appetite frameworks.
  • Approve, decline, or refer submissions within assigned authority levels, ensuring sound risk selection and profitability.
  • Conduct detailed risk analysis for complex accounts across industries such as construction, hospitality, real estate, and manufacturing.
  • Ensure underwriting decisions comply with regulatory requirements, internal standards, and audit expectations.
  • Document underwriting rationale, pricing justification, and risk assessments clearly and consistently in underwriting files.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and producers to support business development and portfolio growth.
  • Collaborate with internal underwriting, operations, and product teams to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  • Provide recommendations to insureds and partners to reduce exposure and improve risk quality.
  • Support process improvements and contribute to knowledge sharing and mentorship within the underwriting team.
Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience with 10+ years in underwriting.

  • Minimum 5+ years of workers’ compensation underwriting experience or related commercial insurance underwriting expertise.
  • Strong understanding of underwriting principles, pricing models, and risk evaluation methodologies.
  • Experience with high-risk industries such as construction, manufacturing, real estate, or hospitality.
  • Ability to analyze complex submissions and make sound, data-informed underwriting decisions.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with brokers, agents, and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to quickly learn underwriting and insurance systems.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Adaptability and ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
  • Insurance designations such as CPCU, CIC, CRIS, or Property & Casualty licenses are a plus.
Benefits:
  • Competitive annual salary range: $101,000 – $127,000 USD, plus bonus eligibility
  • Employee ownership program with long-term value participation
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Paid time off, paid holidays, and flexible time-off programs
  • Health Savings Account with company contribution
  • Life, AD&D, short-term disability, and voluntary insurance options
  • Remote/hybrid support including work-from-home reimbursement (where applicable)
  • Professional development and career growth opportunities
