Job Description

The Department:

The Department of Public Works (DPW) constructs, maintains and improves various components of the City’s infrastructure providing quality, cost-effective, and timely services for the residents and businesses of Santa Clara. This also includes support of other City Departments providing services to the community. The maintenance and operations arm of DPW is responsible for the maintenance of streets and sidewalks, the storm drain collection system, traffic signs, street trees, right-of-way landscapes, fleet and facilities. DPW also implements the City’s waste reduction and urban runoff pollution prevention programs.

The Position:

The Environmental Program Manager supervises and assigns staff and monitors contractors responsible for the implementation of environmental programs and services. The incumbent will plan, develop and administer solid waste and recycling and urban runoff pollution prevention programs.


As a member of the City's Unclassified Service, this is an "at-will" position and the incumbent serves at the discretion of the City Manager.

The annual salary range for this position is $151,981.08 - $196,670.52.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Public or Business Administration, Environmental Studies, Social Science, Engineering, or related studies

Minimum Experience Requirements:

  • Four (4) years of experience in developing, promoting and operating recycling, source reduction, household hazardous waste, solid waste, sustainability, or urban runoff pollution prevention programs; and
  • One (1) year of lead or supervisory experience

Acceptable Substitution:

None.

License/Certifications:

  • Possession of an appropriate, valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment
  • Incumbents of this classification may be required to work odd and unusual hours
