Agile PMO (APMO) Intern

Ready for a challenging and rewarding summer? This is your chance to work hands-on with the teams that plan, deliver, and continuously improve technology and business initiatives at a leading industrial distribution company. Over the summer you'll see how large programs get delivered, how agile teams work day to day, and how a modern PMO keeps strategic work on track.

At Motion Industries, we use technology, agility, and continuous improvement to transform how we run our business. If you want to build your project delivery, organizational, and analytical skills while learning from experienced leaders and coaches, come find out what's next with us.

This position is based in Birmingham, AL. Ideal candidates reside in or near the Birmingham, AL area.

What you'll do

  • Participate in project, program, and portfolio meetings, and help keep leadership informed on progress

  • Help track milestones, risks, issues, dependencies, and action items across multiple initiatives

  • Support agile ceremonies across our Agile Release Trains, including PI Planning, team standups, backlog refinement, reviews, retrospectives, and system demos

  • Help maintain schedules, dashboards, reports, and portfolio and delivery metrics

  • Support the build-out of team-health, flow, and predictability views that help teams and leaders see how work is progressing

  • Collaborate with teams to capture requirements, meeting notes, and project artifacts

  • Assist with executive presentations, status reports, and governance materials

  • Support continuous improvement by helping refine PMO and agile ways-of-working processes, templates, and tools

  • Work with business and technology stakeholders to keep project information accurate and current

  • Contribute to special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by the Agile PMO team

What you'll bring

  • Currently pursuing a BS or BA in Business, Information Technology, Organizational Leadership, Engineering, or a related field

  • Interest in one or more of: project management, Agile delivery, portfolio management, business operations, or technology delivery

  • Basic understanding of project management and/or Agile and Scrum concepts

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Teams

  • Exposure to delivery and collaboration tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, Smartsheet, Power BI, or Microsoft Project is a plus

  • Awareness of SAFe or other scaled-agile approaches is a plus

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Clear written and verbal communication

  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team

  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills

  • Curiosity, adaptability, and a continuous-improvement mindset

What you'll gain

  • Direct exposure to how enterprise programs are planned, delivered, and improved across multiple teams

  • Mentorship from experienced project and agile delivery leaders and coaches

  • The opportunity to own a summer capstone: a scoped project you shape and present to the team at the end of the internship, tied to a real need such as a team-health or predictability view or a ways-of-working improvement

  • A firsthand look at how a modern, agile PMO operates inside a large organization
