About This Position

The Project Advisor for Educational Talent Search will be responsible for assisting the Director in the day-to-day functions of the department and assists the Director to ensure the success of the Educational Talent Search project. The Project Advisor coordinates and provides ETS services and activities to the project participants, conducts student and education assessments, provides advising and academic coaching services, participates in the evaluation process, and completes all reports and documents as required.

This is a temporary, grant-funded, and probationary status position. Continued employment is dependent on continued funding.
  1. Adheres to the policies, rules, and standards of Central Alabama Community College, the Alabama Community College System, accrediting agencies and federal regulatory bodies.
  1. Prepares required reports as required by Central Alabama Community College, the Alabama Community College System, and other regulatory agencies.
  2. Ensures institutional compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act(FERPA).
  3. Submits student services and TRIO forms and data in timely manner as directed.
  4. Assists the Director by coordinating the activities.
  5. Assists with recruitment and orientation of participants into the program.
  6. Establishes liaisons with and visits assigned community agencies on a regular basis to assure communications are clear and consistent.
  7. Acts as a role model for target area students and is sensitive to the needs of students who are educationally disadvantaged.
  8. Assists the Director in recruiting and providing orientation processes for prospective Talent Search clients referred by agencies and the parents of clients.
  9. Assists the Director in assessing educational needs and goals of project clients through administering assessment tools.
  10. Oversees the provision of academic counseling services to clients in the form of career planning, educational information, and financial assistance.
  11. Assists with ETS activities as directed by the Director (tours).
  12. Conducts ETS activities and services in a timely manner.
  13. Works successfully with residents, high school staff, and clients in low-income communities and in the target area.
  14. Assists the Director in representing ETS at all appropriate meetings both on and off-campus.
  15. Represents the Director at formal meetings and occasions when necessary.
  16. Distributes participant information via approved electronic/social media platforms.
  17. Updates ETS social media, as directed.
  18. Performs additional duties as assigned.
  19. Serves on college committees as assigned.

  1. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university is required.
  2. Master’s degree in counseling, social services, student personnel, or related program of study is preferred.
  3. Three (3) years of full-time experience in a federally funded TRIO project or similarly funded project is required.
  4. Ability to problem solve and prioritize with minimal supervision is required.
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills is required.
  6. Excellent customer service skills is required.
  7. Ability to develop, review, and edit drafts of professional documents is required.
  8. Ability to travel to and from instructional sites and to participate in scheduled activities is required.
  9. Ability to work non-traditional work hours is required.
  10. Knowledge of desktop publishing and use of electronic media (social media, i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In, etc.) is required.
  11. Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and the ability to be sensitive to the needs of the educationally disadvantaged is required.
  12. A valid State Driver’s License is required.
  13. Experience in academic counseling, academic coaching, or advising is required.
  14. Experience with first generation, low-income, and/or students with disabilities is preferred.
  15. Experience with BLUMEN and educational software information systems is preferred.
  16. Budgeting and accounting experience is preferred
