About This Position
Pay Rate: $21.41 per hour.
Responsible for interviewing and collecting patient demographic and insurance information needed to complete the eligibility and benefit verification process. Verifies patient specific benefits and precisely documents specifics for various payer plans including patient coverage and cost share.
Ensure timely medical record completion in accordance with regulatory agency standards and hospital rules and regulations, while exhibiting excellent customer service skills and maintaining a high degree of accuracy for proper reimbursement. Perform the appropriate follow-up for uninsured patients and coordinate calls with insurers to resolve coordination of benefit issues. This position requires frequent contact with patients, medical staff, third party payers and community agencies. Position requires coverage of ED Registration functions as needed.
Education/Training: High School diploma or equivalent required. Ability to read, write and communicate in English. Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.
Experience: Minimum two years (2) of experience in medical insurance verification and comprehensive understanding of medical benefits including deductible, co-insurance, co-payment and out-of-pocket maximum required. Experience serving a broad and diverse community with frequent customer interaction is required. Experience in patient registration, patient accounting, or in a medical office is preferred. Prior experience must demonstrate the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment, prioritize and multitask with a high-level accuracy while being sensitive to customer needs and expectations. Experience with Epic, Medical Necessity tools, scheduling and eligibility verification software, preferred. Must be proficient using Internet browser, Microsoft Word and Excel, and have competent typing skills.
Licensure, Registration or Certification: Required to successfully complete the formal Healthcare Access Orientation program during orientation period. Healthcare access certification required at hire/transfer (CPAS) or must pass certification exam within thirty (30) days of hire/transfer date. CPAS Recertification required every two years.
