About This Position

Position Purpose:

Essential Functions (list in order of importance including measures)

1. Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other health care providers to translate clinical requirements into applications and technical specifications.

2. Ensure that systems exceed regulatory metrics (e.g. Meaningful Use, JCAHO, Quality Measures, etc.).

3. Ensure that system outputs (Reports, Faxes, System generated e-mails/test) are routed appropriately

4. Lead role in the Nursing Informatics team:

5. Review current policies, procedures, and documentation practices

6. Reviewing audits of nursing documentation

7. Work with nursing to simplify workflows and streamline clinical processes

8. Develop/maintain Expanse based on current standards of care

9. Create new documentation based on best practices

10. Develop the template for new documentation such as nursing assessments, care plans, nursing orders

11. Open cases with MEDITECH to coordinate the build and/or revisions in Expanse

12. Retrieve and review information to improve patient safety

13. Work closely with the Quality department

14. Lead role in maintaining the current Expanse toolkits (evidenced-based clinical guidelines) and implementing new toolkits as they become available

15. Lead process and change management for planned initiatives, unpredictable environments, and/or unexpected situations

16. Work with department leaders or Education department to education nursing staff on updates, changes, and enhancements to Expanse

17. Acts as the go-between for nursing and the IT department

18. Works closely with IT clinical analysts especially during POD updates

19. Assist in developing downtime policies

20. Support system integration, interfaces, FTP transmissions

21. Provide ongoing support to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.

22. Builds, tests and supports EMR software and other clinical/ancillary applications. Tasks include application upgrades, writing test scripts, and supporting upgrades to production environment, responding to, and resolving incidents.

23. Acts as a liaison between the clinical departments, IT staff, and software vendors to triage and report issues within clinical applications and resolve any technical or functional issues.

24. Participates in planning, testing, and supporting go-live of technical infrastructure.

Marginal Functions (list in order of importance)

Performs both essential and marginal job functions in a safe manner as identified by Saint Anthony Hospital and the respective department while adhering to the Hospital’s confidentiality norms and standards. Actively and consistently demonstrates the core values of Saint Anthony Hospital and Ascension Health in all interactions with others.

Assumes responsibility for knowing and maintaining established hospital and departmental objectives, policies/procedures including general sanitation, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

Participates in performance activities including problem identification, data collection, solution selection, implementation and evaluation. Also assists in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies as appropriate.

Participates in staff meetings and other inservices, meetings or committees as required. General Job Requirements (List any required knowledge, skills, experiences or training, including length of time necessary for proficiency, required to perform the job.)

· Registered Nurse (RN)

· 4 years of experience working as RN in hospital environment.

· Experience working with Microsoft Enterprise products.

· Basic understanding of networking and security principles (e.g. internet access, routing, servers, firewalls)

· Experience with desktop virtualization (e.g. Microsoft virtual PC, Citrix, VMware) is a plus

· Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be very polished and presentable - this is a highly visible role within the organization

· Demonstrable experience supporting senior executives, VPs etc.

· Ability to multi-task and manage working on several different projects

· Must have excellent analytical and problem resolution skills, be able to problem solve independently or with other teams as appropriate

· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent education/professional work experience, strongly preferred.
