Summary: The Shop Foreman will oversee daily operations within the truck upfitting shop, ensuring all projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. This role involves mentoring a team of technicians, inspecting completed upfitting work on trucks, identifying any defects or issues, and coordinating with production teams to ensure that corrective actions are taken. The Shop Foreman will also be responsible for upholding company policies, procedures, and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality

Key Responsibilities

Supervision and Leadership

  • Mentor and supervise a team of upfitting technicians.
  • Monitor progress of jobs to ensure timely completion.
  • Provide training and mentorship to new and existing employees.

Quality Control

  • Inspect work performed to ensure it meets company standards and customer expectations.
  • Perform final inspections including functional testing of all installed components, including electrical systems, mechanical parts, and other equipment and approve prior to delivery or pick up from customers.
  • Implement and maintain quality control procedures.
  • Address and resolve any quality issues promptly.

Workflow Management

  • Work with Service Manager to plan and organize daily workflow and scheduling of jobs. This includes recommending assignments to team members based on their skills and experience.
  • Track job progress and provide regular updates to management and customers.

Safety and Compliance

  • Enforce safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ensure all employees adhere to company and industry safety standards.

Customer Service

  • Interact with customers to provide updates on job status and address any concerns.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality workmanship and timely completion of projects.

Administrative

  • Contact vendors and suppliers as needed for research and technical support.
  • Assist with Corporate Tech support to field calls with various locations.
  • Manage all repair and warranty jobs for branch with the assistance of the Service Manager.

Documentation

  • Open new Work Orders and maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Document all inspection findings, including any defects or non-conformances, in detailed reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and corrective actions taken.
  • Ensure all inspection documentation is complete and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Complete all supportive documentation needed including Data sheets and Key sets.

Quality Assurance

  • Develop and implement quality control procedures and standards.
  • Provide feedback to production teams on quality issues and work with them to resolve problems.
  • Monitor ongoing production processes to ensure continuous compliance with quality standards.

Process Improvement

  • Identify areas for improvement in the quality control process and recommend solutions.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes to address recurring quality issues.

Training and Support

  • Train production staff on quality control standards and procedures.
  • Support production teams with troubleshooting and resolving quality issues during the upfitting process.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in automotive or truck mechanics preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in truck upfitting or a related field, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of quality control standards and procedures.
  • Familiarity with automotive or truck upfitting processes and components.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Proficient in using inspection tools and programming equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in diagnostic and repair procedures.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency with shop management software

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing and production environment.
  • The job is performed in a shop environment with exposure to noise, fumes, and varying temperatures.
  • Comfortable working in various environmental conditions.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • No Direct Report responsibilities are needed for this position.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a half an hour lunch. Differing hours may be arranged.
