JOB SUMMARY
The Dock Lead is primarily responsible for the effective shipping and receiving functions of the dock in regards to the forklift drivers, unloading, and loading both inbound and outbound trucks. The Dock Lead will report directly to the Shipping and Receiving Assistant Manager.
Requirements:PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leading dock operations – either in receiving or outbound
- Help train new employees in the process of receiving and/or outbound
- Lead team in handling of incoming freight
- Communicate with Shipping Office staff to coordinate dock door assignment of incoming carriers based on the Priority Load List and Load Planner.
- Prepare cartons on a scale for QC to inspect proper weight of products (I.E Bean Loads)
- Prepare shipment, including coordination of staging and wrapping pallets.
- Direct the loading and unloading of palletized produce from tractor trailers
- Lead team in rotating product based on instructions from the Quality Control and Quality Assurance Manager or the Inventory Control Manager
- Assist forklift drivers and stackers as necessary
- Operate forklifts and electric manual hand jacks (following proper training)
- Coordinate and assist with warehouse cleaning at the end of shift
- Monitor proper PPE (personal protective equipment) that is required to be worn
- Must follow GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), USDA, and DOL standards
- Must follow GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), Occupational Safety Procedures, and all Floor Safety guidelines related to the position or being on the Warehouse Floor.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or greater
- 2+ years of Dock Experience is preferred
- Lift and Carry weight ranging from 0 to 25 pounds with frequency
- Occasional bending, kneeling, crouching, and stooping
- Frequent Standing
- Knowledge of operating warehouse equipment
- Ability to be mobile throughout work areas
- Knowledge of the Spanish language is preferred
- Knowledge of Forklift and Computer Systems is preferred
- Basic mathematical and literacy skills.
- Good communication skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is performed in a warehouse and loading dock environment with frequent exposure to: Moving forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment; Constant loading/unloading activity and vehicle traffic (tractor-trailers)
- Exposure to varying temperatures (hot, cold, humid), typical of produce and dock operations
- Moderate to high noise levels due to machinery and operations
- Requires adherence to: GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices); USDA and DOL regulations; Company safety policies and PPE requirements
- Fast-paced, physically active environment with productivity expectations and deadlines
- Frequent interaction and coordination with: Shipping office staff; Forklift drivers and warehouse team members
- May require flexibility in schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or overtime based on operational needs
- Regular responsibility for team leadership on the dock floor, including training and oversight
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently
- Frequent standing and walking throughout the shift
- Ability to be continuously mobile across warehouse and dock areas
- Occasional: Bending, Kneeling, Crouching, Stooping
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment, including: Forklifts; Electric/manual pallet jacks (with training)
- Use of hands and arms for: Handling products; Staging and wrapping pallets
- Ability to visually assess loads and product quality (e.g., weights, pallet conditions)
- Capability to work safely in close proximity to heavy equipment and moving machinery
