Job Description
Mills James is seeking a Media Center Technician (Pre-Professional) to join our Post Operations team through a structured six-month development program. This entry-level opportunity is ideal for individuals looking to begin a career in video production, media management, or post-production.
In this role, you will gain hands-on experience working with professional-grade equipment and industry-standard workflows. You will support the ingestion, organization, processing, and delivery of media assets while learning directly from experienced production professionals in a collaborative environment.
This position is fully on-site in Columbus, Ohio and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work.
Essential Functions
- Ingest, organize, and back up raw video and audio files for editorial and archival use
- Transcode media into multiple formats for broadcast, streaming, and digital delivery
- Create and manage closed captioning for short- and long-form video content
- Apply and maintain file naming conventions, metadata, and asset management standards
- Perform quality control checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of media deliverables
- Coordinate and distribute media files to internal teams and external partners
- Prepare and deliver final media for broadcast and digital platforms
- Troubleshoot issues related to file formats, storage systems, and media transfers
- Support daily operations, including scheduling and general media center tasks
- Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals
Required Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of video production workflows, codecs, and file formats
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, Media Encoder, After Effects preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Willingness to learn and contribute in a team-oriented setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree (or currently pursuing) in Video Production, Media Arts, Communications, or related field
- Internship, coursework, or hands-on experience in post-production or media handling
