    • JOB SUMMARY
      • The Student Nurse Extern (SNE) provides supervised, hands-on patient care aligned with academic preparation and MHP policy. Working under the direct supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse (RN), the SNE progresses through defined extern tiers (SNE-1 to SNE-4) that match nursing curriculum completion, demonstrated competencies, and validated clinical performance. The extern supports safe, quality, patient- and family-centered care while developing professional practice habits and readiness for transition to RN practice at MHP.
        This position is paid on-the-job training with a 400 hour/year commitment. MHP provides financial assistance in exchange for a post-licensure service commitment agreement at MHP. ASN or BSN students enrolled in a tuition approved accredited college or university are applicable to apply. Requirements for ASN degree applicants are proof of completion of prerequisites. Requirements for BSN degree are that applicants must have completed 1 year of college toward their degree. Both applicants must show proof of acceptance into their program by submitting a copy of their acceptance letter, must show current proof of enrollment by submitting a copy of their most recent transcripts and a BLS certification through American Heart Association.
        Key Responsibilities as a Student Nurse Extern:
        • Assist with admissions, vitals, patient orientation, and documentation
        • Support RN-directed patient care and communicate changes in condition
        • Help with ADLs: feeding, bathing, mobility, skin care
        • Participate in patient/family education
        • Perform basic nursing procedures (IV starts, NG tubes, etc.) under RN supervision
        • Complete nursing assessments for learning purposes with RN validation
        • Assist with discharge planning, treatments, and patient support
        • Attend unit meetings, in-services, and contribute to team goals
        • Follow all organizational policies, safety standards, and confidentiality requirements
    • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
      • Professional & Technical Skills
        • Experience gained through an approved school of nursing plus an appropriate period of hospital orientation to the assigned patient care area.
      • Education
        • ASN or BSN students enrolled in a tuition-approved accredited college or university. ASN students must have completed their prerequisites. BSN students must have completed 1 year of college toward a degree.
      • License(s) or Certification(s)
        • Active BLS Certification through the American Heart Association
      • Other Skills or Requirements
        • Signed retention/educational assistance agreement upon acceptance to MHP program.
      • Skilled to Care for Certain Age-Related Patient Groups (incumbents will be skilled in the care of the following patient groups)
