Job Summary

The Senior Wealth Planner plays a critical role within Cogent Private Wealth by delivering sophisticated, comprehensive financial planning solutions to high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients. This role partners closely with Wealth Advisors, Portfolio Managers, and other specialists to design, implement, and maintain holistic financial plans that align with clients’ long-term goals and complex financial needs.

The Senior Wealth Planner serves as a subject matter expert in advanced planning areas including retirement, tax strategy, estate planning, risk management, and wealth preservation, while also acting as a trusted advisor to both clients and internal team members.

Requirements:

Responsibilities and Duties

Client Financial Planning & Advisory

  • Lead the development and ongoing maintenance of comprehensive financial plans covering retirement planning, tax strategies, estate planning, insurance analysis, charitable giving, and wealth transfer strategies.
  • Conduct in-depth client discovery meetings to assess financial goals, risk tolerance, time horizons, and personal circumstances in collaboration with Wealth Advisors.
  • Translate complex financial concepts into clear, actionable recommendations tailored to each client’s objectives.

Advanced Planning Expertise

  • Provide advanced planning support in areas such as tax optimization, estate and trust planning coordination, business owner planning, and multi-generational wealth strategies.
  • Coordinate with external professionals including CPAs, estate planning attorneys, and insurance specialists to ensure integrated and well-executed planning solutions.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of financial planning apps used by CPW and review of financial planning software and tools.

Collaboration & Team Leadership

  • Partner closely with Senior Wealth Advisors as a core member of each client’s Wealth Management team.
  • Serve as a planning resource and mentor to Associate Wealth Advisors and Financial Planners, helping elevate planning standards and consistency across the team.
  • Participate in internal case reviews and planning strategy discussions to enhance client outcomes and team effectiveness.

Client Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships through proactive communication, responsiveness, and high-touch service.
  • Participate in client review meetings to present planning updates, recommendations, and progress toward stated goals.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure all planning activities comply with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and fiduciary standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of financial plans, analyses, and client interactions.
  • Complete all required BSA/AML/OFAC training and adhere to Cogent Bank compliance protocols.

Business & Practice Support

  • Support business development efforts by contributing planning expertise during prospect meetings and onboarding processes.
  • Assist in refining planning tools, templates, and processes to enhance scalability and client experience.
  • Adhere to all Cogent Private Wealth policies & procedures.
  • Ensures BSA compliance by reading and being familiar with the BSA/AML program/policy; following all BSA/AML/OFAC policies and procedures; and completing all BSA/AML/OFAC related online courses.
  • All other tasks, responsibilities, or duties, as directed by management.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in comprehensive financial planning, preferably serving high-net-worth clients.
  • Professional designations are strongly preferred (CFP®, CPWA®, CPA, EA, CFA®, or similar).
  • Deep understanding of financial planning principles, tax planning, estate strategies, investment concepts, and insurance solutions.
  • Proficiency with financial planning software and analytical tools.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong ethical standards and commitment to acting in clients’ best interests at all times.
