Mechanical Estimator – Special Projects

Ocean Park Mechanical (OPM) is one of the premier design-build mechanical contractors of Western USA & CND, with operations in Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, and British Columbia. Purpose of Position:
The Mechanical Estimator prepares bids for special projects for institutional and commercial tenders with a focus on tenant improvements, tilt-ups, hospitals, and schools.

Reporting Structure:
The Mechanical Estimator reports directly to the Lead Equipment Purchaser/Estimator.

  • Competitive base salary of $80,000 to $100,000 CND per year D.O.E

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Send out RFQs to the appropriate sub-trades and suppliers for division 20, 21, 22, 23 and 25
  • Review and highlight key details from bid documentation
  • Send out RFI’s for clarifications
  • Maintain, update & improve the estimating software
  • Stay up-to date with materials and labor cost
  • Pass projects over to Project Mangers in detailed turnover sheets
  • Assist Project Coordinators with change orders
  • Piping take off ability is mandatory with sheet metal take off desirable but not mandatory
Experience, Education & Qualifications:
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in mechanical estimating or a combined estimating/project management role
  • Proven experience with civil infrastructure or large-scale residential/commercial construction projects.
  • Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; equivalent hands-on experience may be considered
  • Experience working on high-rise, institutional, or complex mechanical system projects
  • Proficiency, Bluebeam, or other design/modeling software
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and construction documentation
  • Red Seal Plumbing, HVAC certification, or Computer Information Systems considered an asset
  • Diploma in Computer Information Systems
  • Proficient in Trimble and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Autobid maintenance and building database for take-off based on mechanical specifications
  • Experience with quantity takeoffs, change order estimating, and labour/equipment costing
