Job Description

In 1967, Professor John Irwin created Project Rebound as a way to matriculate people into San Francisco State University directly from the criminal justice system. The focus of Project Rebound quickly became Education as an alternative to incarceration and turning former prisoners into scholars. Since the program’s inception, hundreds of formerly incarcerated people have obtained Bachelor’s degrees and beyond. In 2016, Project Rebound moved beyond the confines of SF State onto eight other CSU campuses, including Cal State Fullerton. Project Rebound acts as a liaison between networks throughout the campus at large as well as throughout the communities in and around CSUF. We utilize a multitude of educational, tutorial, mentorship, and vocational resources to support formerly incarcerated students in succeeding in their education. We focus on the whole student and provide referrals to counseling and networking with human service programs and community-based organizations that can best serve our student’s needs. From prison to university and beyond, Project Rebound exists to support those who want to empower themselves and others through higher education.

The Project Rebound Juvenile Justice Advocate will work with the Juvenile Justice Outreach Coordinator, Program Director, and Enrollment Coordinator assisting in maintaining the Dare to Dream: Pathways to College Success program within Orange County Juvenile/Youth facilities, campus partnerships, community-based organizations, high schools, and public agencies that service and support incarcerated and formerly incarcerated transitional aged youth. This position will be responsible for participating in and leading segments of the college orientation and empowerment curriculum, pairing with Dare 2 Dream participants to provide individualized mentorship and coaching, serving as ambassadors of Project Rebound and CSUF, providing system-navigation support, serving as guides and confidants to Dare 2 Dream participants during site visits and advising sessions, etc.
