The Wall Las Memorias (TWLM) is a community health and wellness organization dedicated to serving underserved populations through advocacy, education, and leadership development. Role Overview
The Community Organizer reports to the Programs Manager and Senior Programs Director and supports outreach, workshop implementation, trainings, facilitation, engagement, and social justice activities. This role assists with prevention and risk reduction programs, daily operations, approved work plans, compliance, reporting, recordkeeping, data entry, community engagement, and program evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
· Implement workshops, trainings, outreach activities, and social justice activities that support HIV testing, prevention, education, and risk reduction programming.
· Provide HIV Testing and Counseling services to At-Risk communities at designated office sites.
· Assist with team facilitation, community engagement, and recruitment for agency and program activities.
· Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of community-based environmental prevention programs and services.
Outreach and Recruitment
The primary goal of this position is outreach and recruitment to communities at high risk for HIV in Los Angeles, including the Southeast Los Angeles cities of Bell, Bell Gardens, Bellflower, Cudahy, Downey, Huntington Park, Maywood, Montebello, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, South Gate, Whittier, and surrounding areas.
· Recruit individuals for agency and program activities.
· Assist in developing outreach plans and tailored marketing materials.
· Engage community members, businesses, and partners to support evidence-based prevention strategies.
Program Administration
· Oversee daily operations related to approved work plans, compliance, monthly program reports, recordkeeping, and data entry.
· Participate in assessment, capacity building, planning, implementation, advocacy, and evaluation activities for assigned programs.
· Assist with annual agency events and complete other assignments provided by the Programs Manager and Senior Programs Director.
Qualifications
● Associate degree or equivalent in public health, political science or related field.
● One (1) year of experience providing health-related prevention services prior to employment
● Preferred: Los Angeles County DHSP - BASIC 1 HIV Testing Certification
● Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and public speaking skills
● Must be comfortable with public speaking, giving presentations, and facilitating group discussions.
● Sensitivity to the needs of diverse populations, including LGBTQ+ communities and underserved populations.
● Must be knowledgeable of local communities.
● Must be a team player- work well with a diverse team
● Good understanding of the wellness and healthcare needs of underserved communities and the ability to work well with diverse populations and stakeholders.
● Knowledge in engaging and/or organizing community members, businesses, and community leaders in the implementation/adoption of a community and/or population-based effort
Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
