About This Position
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
The purpose of this position is to provide analytical and financial support to Jones Memorial Hospital by developing and maintaining performance metrics, preparing statistical reports, and conducting ad hoc analyses to inform strategic and operational decision-making. The position supports revenue integrity efforts by ensuring accurate month-end financial reporting, contributes to financial controls and data accuracy, and serves as a backup to the Accountant to ensure continuity in core financial operations.
MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performance Metrics and Statistical Reporting
- Develops and maintains key performance indicators (KPIs) to support clinical, operational, and financial decision-making across hospital departments.
- Prepares and interprets statistical reports to identify trends, monitor performance, and support strategic initiatives.
- Responds to ad hoc requests for data and analysis from leadership, clinical teams, and administrative departments.
- Supports the development of dashboards and reporting tools to visualize performance metrics and operational outcomes.
Revenue Integrity
5. Assists in monitoring and analyzing revenue cycle data to ensure accurate and complete charge capture, coding, and billing practices.
6. Identifies opportunities for revenue enhancement with a focus on reduced claims denials and process improvement through data analysis and collaboration with clinical and billing teams.
7. Supports compliance with payer requirements and internal policies related to revenue recognition and reimbursement.
Financial Analysis and Decision Support
8. Performs regular and ad hoc financial and operational analyses to support hospital initiatives and strategic planning.
9. Translates complex data into clear, actionable insights for leadership and department managers.
10. Supports compensation planning and assists with financial reviews for clinical and research activities.
11. Contributes to the development of operational budgets, forecasts, and pro forma analyses.
Financial Controls and Data Integrity
12. Participates in financial controls activities such as ledger reconciliation and account review.
13. Ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data across systems and reporting platforms.
14. Supports internal audit and compliance efforts through documentation and analysis.
Accountant Backup Support
15. Provides backup support to the Accountant, assisting with general ledger maintenance, journal entries, month/year-end close, and audit processes.
16. Assists with financial reporting, reconciliations, and other accounting functions as needed to ensure continuity of operations.
17. Performs other related duties as assigned within the scope of abilities and hospital policy.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Health Administration, Business Analytics, or a related field required.
EXPERIENCE:
• Five (5) to seven (7) years of combined experience in financial analysis, finance, or related functions required.
• Demonstrated experience with KPI development, statistical reporting, and ad hoc analysis.
• Two (2) to three (3) years of experience with general ledger accounting and the ability to support month-end close and reconciliation processes.
• Proficiency in Excel, financial systems, and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Workday, Tableau, or similar platforms) preferred.
• Healthcare data reporting or revenue cycle operations experience highly preferred but not required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• High proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, data manipulation, and data integration.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet established deadlines.
• Ability to present complex information in a concise, understandable manner.
• Proficiency with financial and data reporting systems, with emphasis on University of Rochester’s systems such as Workday and Tableau.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with effective time management and organizational skills.
