This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Database Administrator based in United States.
This role offers the opportunity to manage and optimize critical SQL Server and Azure database environments within a complex technology landscape. You will contribute across the full application development lifecycle, from database design and migration through testing, deployment, and production support. The position combines hands-on administration with data management, security, performance tuning, and modernization initiatives. You will work with development teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and technical partners to maintain reliable and secure database operations. The role also provides exposure to data warehouses, data marts, Power BI, and high-availability technologies. It is well suited to an experienced DBA who can work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative technical environment.
- Perform advanced SQL Server database administration and production database operations, including installation, configuration, upgrades, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Support database activities throughout the application lifecycle, including planning, design, development, implementation, QA, data cleanup, migration, and production deployment.
- Manage database security, availability, monitoring, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, and performance optimization.
- Conduct SQL Server health checks, identify performance issues, and provide recommendations for optimization and operational improvement.
- Execute database migrations and upgrades across legacy servers and SQL Server versions, including data extraction, cleansing, transformation, loading, and validation.
- Deploy, configure, secure, back up, and maintain Azure SQL databases and integrate Azure database resources with other Azure services.
- Develop and deploy database schemas across development, testing, and production environments, including logical and physical data modeling.
- Maintain database structures, tables, relationships, indexes, normalization, and other core database components.
- Support Data Warehouse, Data Mart, and Power BI environments, with Power BI administration experience considered an important advantage.
- Apply and support high-availability solutions such as SQL Server Always On.
- Analyze and resolve database-related technical issues while maintaining established database standards, procedures, and security requirements.
- Collaborate with developers, business stakeholders, vendors, and service providers on technical requirements, implementations, releases, and database-related activities.
- Track issues, risks, dependencies, and action items; estimate effort; coordinate assigned activities; and provide regular project and status updates.
- Identify opportunities to improve database processes, operational efficiency, reliability, and overall service delivery.
- Complete assigned work within required timelines while working independently with limited supervision and contributing effectively as part of a team.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience in SQL Server database administration is required.
- 4+ years of experience administering production server databases is required.
- 3+ years of data analytics experience is required.
- At least 1 year of Azure database administration experience is required.
- At least 1 year of Data Warehouse experience is required.
- Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server installation, configuration, upgrades, migration, troubleshooting, backup and restore, security, performance tuning, and health monitoring.
- Experience with Azure SQL Database administration and database modernization initiatives.
- Experience supporting Data Warehouse, Data Mart, ETL, data migration, database modeling, and data validation activities.
- Experience with Power BI environments is highly desirable, particularly Power BI administration.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Always On or other high-availability technologies is desirable.
- Business systems analysis and design experience is a plus.
- Strong communication and professional customer-service skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate with developers, business teams, vendors, and service providers while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities, combined with a proactive approach to identifying technical and operational improvements.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision while remaining an effective contributor within a team.
- Ability to work the required schedule of 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
- Candidates in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area are preferred, although the position is remote.
Benefits:
- Remote work arrangement.
- Contract currently funded through June 30, 2027, with the final duration subject to project schedules and business requirements.
- Potential for additional funding beyond June 30, 2027, although any extension is not guaranteed.
