Job Overview

The Chair Lift Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and friendly operation of Seven Oaks' aerial chairlift and for assisting guests with safely loading and unloading. This position plays an important role in creating a positive guest experience while keeping safety the highest priority.

This is primarily an outdoor position requiring employees to work for extended periods in cold and changing winter weather conditions. Chair Lift Operators must be attentive, dependable, able to make quick decisions, and comfortable interacting with guests of all ages and skiing/snowboarding ability levels.

Essential Job Functions

Chair Lift Operations & Safety

• Safely operate the chairlift according to established operating and safety procedures.
• Perform proper procedures for starting, slowing, stopping, and emergency stopping of the chairlift.
• Remain alert and attentive while the lift is operating and make quick decisions when necessary to protect guest safety.
• Assist guests with safely loading onto and unloading from the chairlift.
• Provide additional assistance to children and other guests when needed or requested.
• Inspect guest lift tickets and season passes prior to boarding as required.
• Follow all established operational, safety, and emergency procedures.
• Immediately report equipment concerns, unsafe conditions, injuries, or other safety issues to management.

Loading & Unloading Areas

• Prepare chairlift loading and unloading ramps before opening each day.
• Maintain proper snow surfaces at loading and unloading areas throughout the day by shoveling, raking, grooming, and adding or removing snow as necessary.
• Regularly inspect loading and unloading areas for hazards or unsafe conditions.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
• Perform end-of-day duties to properly close and secure chairlift areas.

Crowd Control & Hill Maintenance

• Set up stanchions, ropes, and lift mazes to maintain safe and orderly guest flow.
• Install required safety signs and barriers before opening and remove or secure them after closing.
• Assist with snow fencing, sign placement or replacement, and basic trail and hill maintenance as needed.
• Work with other departments and assist with general mountain operations when needed.

Guest Service

• Greet guests in a friendly, professional, and helpful manner.
• Provide courteous assistance to guests regardless of their skiing or snowboarding ability.
• Become familiar with Seven Oaks' skiable terrain, facilities, and basic operations to accurately answer guest questions.
• Help create a positive, fun, and safe experience for all Seven Oaks guests.

Qualifications

• Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
• Experience: Previous outdoor work, ski area, or chairlift experience preferred but not required.
• General knowledge of skiing, snowboarding, and chairlift operations preferred.
• Must be reliable, punctual, and dependable.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
• Must be safety-conscious and capable of remaining focused in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to make quick decisions when guest safety or lift operations require immediate action.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with guests, coworkers, and supervisors.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, children, adults, and the public.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to a positive, fun, and safe work environment.
• Must be available to work a flexible schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak winter periods.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Must be able to stand and remain outdoors for extended periods.
• Regularly walk and work on snow-covered, icy, uneven, and slippery surfaces.
• Frequently shovel, rake, groom, push, pull, bend, and perform other physical tasks associated with maintaining chairlift areas.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and move equipment or objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to assist guests, including children, when loading and unloading the chairlift.
• Must be able to perform job duties in cold and changing winter weather conditions for extended periods.
• Regular exposure to freezing temperatures, snow, ice, wind, moisture, and sunlight.
• Employees are expected to dress appropriately for prolonged outdoor winter work.
