Salary Range: $50 per hour
Reporting to: Plumbing Subcode Official
Employment Type: Part Time
Work Hours: Up to 25 hours per week; no more than 100 hours per calendar month

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Construction Official and Plumbing Subcode Official, the position has thetechnical responsibility for administering the adopted NJ Plumbing Code as amended by the NewJersey Uniform Construction Code, within the specific jurisdiction
Position provides inspection of construction in conformance to the Plumbing Subcode and ensurescompliance with the construction documents and regulated codes. Within the scope of construction, theposition ensures the health, safety and welfare of the general public using and/or owningcommercial/residential buildings and structures.
A particular position using this title may not perform all the duties listed in this job specification.Conversely, all duties performed by this position may not be listed. Perform complex technical work inthe inspection of buildings for compliance with legal standards set forth by the Uniform ConstructionCode, International Building Code, International Residential Code, ICC, and CTC to enforce thesecodes to ensure public safety, health and welfare insofar as they are affected by building construction.

Job Responsibilities:
- Performs field inspections for code compliance with the state uniform construction code.
- Maintains manual and electronic inspection records
- Performs plan review and reviews construction documents.
- Promptly answers questions from citizens, homeowners, contractors, and builders regardingcode enforcement via phone, email, or in-person visits
- Attends required training to expand knowledge of the related codes and to maintain licensesheld.
- Attends code hearings as needed
- Attends inter-office meetings to continue a unified position on code-related issues
- Occasionally receives, provides, clarifies, or exchanges information with other TownshipDepartments and State Employees.
- Meets with architects and engineers.
- Prepares violations and notices, and collects information to present to the Construction Official.
- Daily operations are within a highly interactive office
- This job constantly provides/delivers a service to Job Supervisors, Homeowners, ConstructionWorkers, and Contractors
- This job constantly receives, provides, clarifies, or exchanges information with ConstructionOfficial, Technical Assistants, Administrative Support Staff, Field Inspectors, and Building,Electrical, Fire or Plumbing Subcode Officials
- This job occasionally provides/delivers a service to Engineers, Developers, and Architects
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required
- Advanced knowledge of a specialized or technical field or thorough knowledge of the practices and techniques of a professional field.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures, and the ability to select a course of action based on these guidelines.
- Thorough knowledge of the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code.
- Extraordinary customer service skills, including maintaining a courteous, pleasant and professional demeanor
- Ability to maintain effective & positive working relationships with all Township employees, officials, boards & commissions, and the general public, with the ability to maintain professionalism when interacting with the most difficult people
- Ability to create accurate reports & reference code items and communicate content effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to obtain and communicate proper information to make accurate decisions and reports is essential
- Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team
Preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of experience with SDL construction software.
- Experience using technology, including but not limited to Google Drive and its programs such as Docs, Sheets, and Calendar etc.
Education, Certifications, and Licenses:
Required
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum licensed as an ICS (Industrial & Commercial Specialist) Plumbing Inspector.
- Residential Mechanical Inspectors license issued by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.
- HHS (High-Rise Hazardous Specialist) Plumbing License issued by the NJ Department of Community Affairs.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field
- Valid NJ Driver's License
Preferred
- Additional inspector and/or administrative licenses issued by the NJ Department of Community Affairs that are related to the Uniform Construction Code, or willingness to obtain additional licenses
- Degree in Architecture or Engineering
Physical Requirements:
- Often works in outside weather conditions, walking on rough terrain, climbing, bending,stretching, frequently required to walk, stand or sit, talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle, feelor operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Hand/ eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of officeequipment
- Occasionally required to use a ladder, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; andsmell
- Ability to lift or move up to 40 pounds on occasion.
- Ability to work for extended periods on computer-based tasks
Additional Information:
- Clearance of background check
- Department operation hours are 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday, but inspection hourscan vary based on department needs
- Must be able to respond to off-hours emergency calls as needed
- Occasional work at home opportunity may be available based on department needs
