The ERA Exceptions Posting Specialist plays a key role in ensuring healthcare claim payments are accurately researched, processed, and resolved.
You’ll investigate payment exceptions identified through Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) and payer documentation.
The role requires strong attention to detail, sound knowledge of insurance payment processes, and a commitment to timely resolution.
You’ll work with electronic 835 files and manual Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), applying accurate payment, denial, and adjustment information.
Your work will directly support accurate revenue cycle operations and high-quality service for healthcare clients nationwide.
This is a collaborative, fast-paced remote opportunity suited to professionals who enjoy problem-solving and maintaining financial accuracy.
- Research and resolve claim payment exceptions identified through Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA), ensuring exceptions are addressed and refiled within appropriate deadlines.
- Process electronic 835 files and manual payer EOBs, accurately posting insurance allowable amounts, patient responsibilities, denials, adjustments, contractual allowances, recoups, and forward balances.
- Interpret EOB remittance codes and apply the appropriate denial codes based on payer information and applicable billing requirements.
- Balance and close payment batches accurately and within established timelines.
- Navigate payer and insurance websites to locate and obtain required EOBs and supporting payment documentation.
- Investigate payment discrepancies and apply strong reconciliation practices to ensure posting accuracy.
- Maintain compliance with applicable state and federal laws, regulations, billing standards, and organizational procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues and relevant teams to resolve exceptions and support consistent payment posting operations.
- Complete assigned special projects and other duties as needed while maintaining accuracy, productivity, and service quality.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least 2 years of experience posting insurance payments in a healthcare setting.
- Two or more years of experience reading and interpreting insurance Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements is preferred.
- Knowledge of different insurance payer types and healthcare payment processes.
- Strong understanding of EOB statements, remittance information, payment adjustments, denials, and related posting activities.
- Strong balancing, reconciliation, mathematical, and 10-key calculator skills.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse personalities.
- Strong time-management and organizational abilities, with excellent attention to detail and the capacity to manage deadlines.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and billing standards.
- Comfortable working independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to changing priorities, processes, and business requirements.
