Under the supervision of the Director of Communication, Office for Mission and Ministry (OMM), and serving as a member of the University and Marketing (UCM) department, the Assistant Director (AD) is fully integrated into the Office for Mission and Ministry (OMM). The Assistant Director provides support to deliver creative and integrated mission-grounded content for OMM’s internal and external constituencies. He/she develops multi-channel communication content and plans digital outreach for social media, digital newsletters, and the OMM website. The Assistant Director serves as a project manager and writer for both digital and print OMM communication and marketing initiatives and serves as the primary point of contact with various OMM departments on communication and marketing projects to ensure alignment with the Villanova brand and achievement of OMM’s goals as outlined in their new strategic plan. The role requires a lived knowledge of the Catholic faith, language, practices and liturgy, as well as an understanding of multifaith spiritual practices, service, justice advocacy, and care for creation

Duties and Responsibilities:
Digital Content Creation and Management:
  • Under the supervision of the Director of Communication, Office for Mission and Ministry (OMM), the Assistant Director coordinates OMM’s internal and external mission-grounded communication through multimedia content creation and digital outreach, which includes social media, digital newsletters and the OMM website.
  • Translates Augustinian Catholic identity, schedules, programs and community life into highly engaging digital content for all areas in OMM.
  • Develops, plans, schedules and collaborates with various OMM departments on communication and marketing projects, including systems and data management, as well as working closely with University Communication and Marketing on design, photography and production.
  • Assists in unifying messaging across OMM centers, including University Ministry, the Center for Peace and Justice Education, the Center for the Common Good, the Center for Liturgy and Sacred Music, the Office for Sustainability, and initiatives from the Office of the Vice President for Mission and Ministry.

Coordinate OMM Digital Media Content Creation
  • Works with other content creators in OMM to plan strategic social media content to elevate the department’s presence and generate engagement.
  • Develops high-quality visual content, student testimonies, and event summaries to promote on digital platforms.

Project Management and Writer
  • Serves as a project manager, writer and editor for both digital and print communication and marketing initiatives.
  • Updates OMM website with current dates, programs, and initiatives.
  • Serves as a cross-functional member of the UCM Communications team, managing additional projects as needed.

Other Duties
  • Performs other duties and assists with projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Formal Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Theology and Religious Studies, or a related field.

Work Experience:
  • 3 years of professional communication experience, preferably within higher education, a faith-based non-profit, or a religious order.

Work Skills:
  • Strong writing skills.
  • High proficiency with content creation tools (Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva), content management systems, email marketing platforms, and a strong understanding of emerging digital media trends.

Specific Job Knowledge:
  • A deep commitment to and understanding of Villanova University and the Augustinian charism with the ability to articulate the mission to a pluralistic campus community.
  • An understanding of Roman Catholic theology and practices and the ability to relate them to the personal and relational experience of young adults.
  • Understanding of multifaith spiritual practices, service, justice advocacy, and care for creation.
  • Strong experience creating content for Instagram, Facebook, and digital platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
Formal Education:
  • Master’s degree in Theology and Religion Studies, or related field.

Work Experience:
  • Strong experience creating content for Instagram, Facebook, and digital platforms.
  • 2 years’ work experience in ministry, service, or related role.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
  • This is a full-time, exempt position, and requires work on occasional nights and weekends.

This position falls within salaried grade 14 and the range is $58,300-72,900. The final salary will be determined with consideration of several factors including the selected candidate’s qualifications, department budget availability, market data, and internal equity.
