Senior Technical Writer

Location: Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL (Bldg. 5308)

Brown Technologies is currently seeking a Senior Technical Writer to support the Utility Helicopter Project Office (UHPO) International Program Office (IPO) at Redstone Arsenal, AL. The Senior Technical Writer will perform reviews, redactions, and marking of UHPO proponent manuals and will analyze, develop, create, and update XML for Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM) and page-based technical publications in support of Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customers. This position requires an active Secret security clearance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform reviews, redactions, and marking of UHPO proponent manuals in support of the International Program Office.
  • Analyze, develop, create, and update Extensible Markup Language (XML) for Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM) and/or page-based technical publications.
  • Conduct research and analysis of provided source data and interpret data into usable XML for UHPO proponent publications.
  • Review and analyze technical data received from the Software Repository Data (SRD), vendors, and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM).
  • Work with equipment specialists, illustrators, engineers, customers, and team members to review, redact, and mark UHPO publications.
  • Ensure technical publications comply with required specifications and military standards, including MIL-STD-40051-1A/1B, MIL-STD-63029, MIL-STD-38784, MIL-HDBK-1222, and MIL-HDBK-2361.
  • Convert source data to updated military standards and convert source data in various formats (SGML, Word documents, PDFs, etc.) to XML.
  • Modify XML using UltraEdit, Arbortext Editor, and Interactive Authoring and Display System (IADS) software.
  • Provide quality, accurate, and timely XML electronic data integration and analysis.
  • Comply with internal processes and procedures to ensure quality control.
  • Utilize configuration management software and comply with configuration management processes to maintain historical documentation.
  • Perform peer reviews, tabletop reviews, validations, and verifications.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely within a cohesive team environment and actively participate in all meetings.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Active Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
  • Approximately five (5) years of technical writing experience supporting aviation aircraft or major weapon systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with XML integration and developing IETM and/or page-based technical publications.
  • Proficiency with UltraEdit, Arbortext Editor, and Interactive Authoring and Display System (IADS).
  • Working knowledge of MIL-STD-40051, MIL-HDBK-1222, and MIL-PRF-63029.
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing technical data received from SRD, vendors, and OEMs.
  • Ability to convert source data from SGML, Word, PDF, and other formats to XML.
  • Ability to comprehend engineering technical data.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize internal and external tasks and projections, and work effectively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Six (6) years of aviation maintenance experience on the UH-60 platform.
  • Acquisition and/or sustainment logistics experience.
  • Experience supporting Foreign Military Sales (FMS) or international program offices.
  • Experience with configuration management software and processes.
