Job Description

Job Title: Armed Armored Car Guard and Driver (CDL)

Reports to: Operations Supervisor / Branch Manager

Employment Type: Full Time, Hourly, Nonexempt

Schedule: 8, 10, and 12 hour shifts; weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed

Pay Rate: $30.00 to $32.00 per hour

Our U.S. operation, Ferrari Express Inc., delivers expert logistics solutions supported by high level security services across the country. We are currently seeking qualified Armed Armored Car Guards and Drivers who hold a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for our JFK operation in Jamaica, Queens.

Position Summary:

The Armed Armored Car Guard and Driver is responsible for the safe, secure, and timely transport of high value shipments while operating company armored commercial motor vehicles and performing armed protective duties. This position operates in a high security, high responsibility environment and requires constant vigilance, professionalism, and sound judgment, together with full compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, New York State armored car guard requirements, and company security procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Commercial Vehicle Operation

  • Operate company armored commercial motor vehicles safely and in compliance with FMCSA regulations, the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law, and company policy.
  • Follow all assigned routes and schedules while adhering to company security procedures and dispatch instructions.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections before and after each trip and complete Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports as required by 49 CFR Part 396.
  • Record hours of service accurately, including electronic logging device entries where applicable, in accordance with 49 CFR Part 395.

Armed Protection and Security

  • Provide armed protection of personnel, vehicle, and cargo in accordance with New York State law, use of force standards, and company protocol.
  • Load, unload, and secure shipments using established security practices.
  • Respond to emergencies, accidents, and potential threats in line with company protocol, and report all incidents promptly and accurately.

Documentation and Communication

  • Maintain accurate chain of custody documentation, manifests, and delivery records.
  • Communicate with dispatch, clients, and team members through secure channels.

Licensing and Regulatory Compliance

  • Keep all required licenses, registrations, certifications, and annual training current, and notify management immediately of any change, suspension, or expiration.
  • Participate in the company’s DOT drug and alcohol testing program and comply with New York State armored car guard regulations and all internal policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License, Class B or higher, issued by New York State or another U.S. state, with no restriction that prevents operation of the company’s assigned vehicles.
  • Valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate issued by a provider listed on the FMCSA National Registry, or the ability to obtain one before the start of employment.
  • Valid New York State Armored Car Guard registration issued by the Department of State, or eligibility to be registered through Ferrari Express upon hire.
  • Valid New York pistol license issued under New York Penal Law Section 400.00 that permits carry in the course of employment.
  • Certificate of completion of the 47 hour firearms training course from a school approved by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), or an approved DCJS waiver, and the ability to complete the 8 hour annual firearms in service training each year.

Experience and Eligibility:

  • At least 21 years of age, as required for interstate commercial motor vehicle operation under 49 CFR 391.11 and for pistol licensing under New York Penal Law Section 400.00.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of licensed driving experience, with a driving record that meets FMCSA driver qualification standards under 49 CFR Part 391 and the requirements of the company’s commercial auto insurance carrier.
  • Ability to successfully complete company firearms qualification.
  • Experience in armored car operations, military service, law enforcement, or armed security preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong communication, observation, and decision making skills.
  • Familiarity with logistics, transportation routes, and security technology such as radios, GPS, telematics, and tracking devices preferred.
  • Knowledge of New York State laws related to firearms, use of force, and private security preferred.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • This position requires meeting the physical qualification standards for commercial drivers under 49 CFR 391.41.
  • Duties involve driving for extended periods and frequently entering and exiting the vehicle, standing, walking, and bending.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and safely operate hand trucks or dollies, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Work is performed in all weather conditions, in heavy traffic, and within secured airport and client facilities while carrying a firearm and wearing the required uniform and protective equipment.

Introductory Period:

All new employees are subject to a one hundred eighty (180) day introductory period during which performance, conduct, and role suitability will be evaluated. Successful completion of the introductory period does not alter the at will nature of employment.

Compliance & Employment Conditions:

All candidates must be currently authorized to work in the United States. Ferrari Express Inc. does not sponsor employment visas now or in the future for this position. Offers of employment for this position are conditional. After a conditional offer is extended, employment is contingent upon a negative DOT preemployment controlled substances test under 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382, a preemployment query of the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse, motor vehicle record review and previous employer safety performance history inquiry under 49 CFR Part 391, a DOT physical examination, and verification of all licenses, registrations, and certifications required for the position, including fingerprinting required by the New York State Department of State.
