Job Description

Position Summary

The Production Floor Lead is responsible for coordinating and overseeing daily production activities to ensure operational efficiency, product quality, safety compliance, and timely completion of production schedules. This position serves as a working lead, providing guidance, support, and direction to production employees while partnering with management to achieve production goals and maintain a safe, productive work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate daily production floor activities to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Monitor workflow and staffing needs to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  • Provide direction, training, and support to production employees on work processes, quality standards, and safety procedures.
  • Ensure employees follow established company policies, work instructions, and safety requirements.
  • Monitor production quality and address issues promptly to minimize scrap, rework, and downtime.
  • Assist with troubleshooting production and equipment-related issues and communicate concerns to management.
  • Verify that materials, tools, and equipment are available and properly utilized throughout the shift.
  • Conduct shift start-up meetings and communicate production priorities and expectations.
  • Maintain accurate production records and communicate daily production performance to management.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the department.
  • Assist with employee onboarding and training initiatives.
  • Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained throughout the production areas.
  • Assist management with production planning, scheduling, and workflow improvements.
  • Perform production duties as needed to support operational requirements.
  • Assist in other departments and perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of manufacturing, production, or industrial experience preferred.
  • Previous lead, team lead, trainer, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret production schedules, work instructions, and quality requirements.
  • Basic computer skills required, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to effectively motivate and direct employees in a fast-paced production environment.
  • An equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training will be considered.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position serves as a working lead and is responsible for directing and coordinating the day-to-day activities of production employees. While this position may not have formal hiring, disciplinary, or termination authority, it is expected to provide leadership, training, coaching, and operational guidance to production personnel.

Work Environment

This position works primarily in a manufacturing and production environment. The employee will be exposed to industrial equipment, moving machinery, production processes, noise, varying temperatures, and other conditions commonly associated with a manufacturing facility.

  • Prolonged Standing/Walking: Required to monitor staff, manage workflows, and inspect lines for \(8+\) hours per shift.
  • Reaching & Bending: Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching above or below shoulder level to handle materials, parts, or tools.
  • Climbing: Ability to climb on and off ladders, forklifts, or elevated catwalks and platforms.
  • Pushing & Pulling: Moving heavy pallet jacks, rolling racks, or cumbersome equipment across the floor.
  • Manual Dexterity: Fine finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination for keyboarding/data entry, assembling small parts, operating controls, and inspecting product quality.
  • Twisting & Balancing: Pivoting while carrying materials and balancing on uneven surfaces or in busy warehouse aisles.
  • Visual Acuity: Normal or corrected vision (close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and color vision) to read blueprints, work orders, scan barcodes, and spot product defects.
  • Communication: Clear verbal communication (talking and hearing) to instruct team members, coordinate with other departments, and respond to alarms in loud environments.
  • Environmental Tolerances: Ability to work in plant or warehouse settings that may involve temperature extremes, loud machinery, airborne dust, and vibration.
