Position Summary

Tampa Family Health Centers is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Rheumatology team in Tampa, Florida.

In this role, you will work alongside an experienced rheumatologist and multidisciplinary care team to provide comprehensive care for patients with autoimmune, inflammatory, and musculoskeletal conditions.

The position offers an opportunity to develop specialized clinical expertise, build long-term patient relationships, and participate in advanced treatment approaches, including biologic and infusion therapies.

Experienced PAs are encouraged to apply. New graduates with strong clinical rotations in rheumatology may also be considered.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with rheumatologic and autoimmune conditions.
  • Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Prescribe and manage medications, including DMARDs, biologics, and infusion therapies, as clinically indicated and in collaboration with the supervising rheumatologist.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic studies.
  • Monitor disease progression, treatment effectiveness, and medication safety.
  • Educate patients on treatment options, medication management, and long-term disease control.
  • Collaborate with primary care providers, infusion services, and other specialists to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation using electronic health records.
  • Complete prior authorizations and care coordination activities as needed.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient education, and clinical mentorship activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable clinical, organizational, and regulatory standards.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies or a related field.
  • Current, active, and unrestricted Florida Physician Assistant license.
  • Current NCCPA certification (PA-C).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • One to two years of experience as a Physician Assistant preferred, ideally in rheumatology, immunology, or orthopedics.
  • New graduates with strong clinical rotations in rheumatology may be considered.
  • Experience in community health or FQHC settings preferred.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, clinical pharmacists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Experience with or willingness to develop expertise in rheumatologic disease management and advanced therapies.
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems, including EPIC.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care, professional development, and service excellence.

Please note: The employee's initial training schedule may differ from the regular schedule of the position. All new hires, including part-time employees, must be available for up to 40 hours of in-person, on-site training during their first week. Additional mandatory training may continue for approximately two to three weeks, depending on the position and training requirements. Training may take place at a TFHC location other than the employee's assigned work location.
