Job Description

As a well-established, growth-oriented commercial HVAC and plumbing contractor we are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Director of Mechanical Engineering to lead our HVAC and plumbing design efforts. This role combines technical expertise, leadership, and strong communication to ensure high-quality designs, smooth project execution, and continuous improvement across the Projects team. The ideal candidate is organized, code-savvy, and capable of developing people, standards, and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead the mechanical design and drafting function, setting clear expectations for quality, standards, and delivery
  • Train and mentor team members on HVAC and plumbing design principles and best practices
  • Partner with the Projects and Service teams to improve mechanical knowledge, execution, and consistency

Engineering & Design Delivery

  • Oversee HVAC and plumbing design from concept through construction support
  • Collaborate with owners, architects, and design partners to define requirements and develop system concepts
  • Perform and oversee thermal load calculations and energy analysis
  • Review awarded projects for value engineering and cost-savings opportunities
  • Support equipment selection and review shop drawings and submittals as required

Quality, Standards & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain current knowledge of mechanical and plumbing code requirements and communicate updates internally
  • Establish and enforce drawing standards and quality-control review processes
  • Stay current on tools, technologies, and industry standards through ongoing professional development
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience
  • Strong communication and relationship skills with a collaborative leadership style
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
