Overview


Position Summary

An advanced clinical leader who manages the continuum of care for patients with chest and esophageal conditions entering the centralized program through screening and/or incidental nodule identification. Nurse Navigator serves as the primary liaison between patients, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure efficient patient throughput, symptom triage, and regulatory compliance.

Relationships

Reports to: Administrative Director Oncology Services and Clinical Trials

Qualifications: The following, or equivalents, are the minimum to requirements to perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing with a current North Carolina RN licnese or RN multi-state licensure privilege through the Nurse Licensure Compact
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Oncology experience is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of medical/surgical nursing preferred.

Additional Skills:

Professional individual capable of multi-tasking, performing independently and achieving positive outcomes with minimal supervision. Demonstrates above average skill in basic computer skills as well as electronic health record experience.

Candidates must show excellent attention to detail and effective follow through. Must be able to communicate with multiple levels of staff and providers. Facilitates project development and implementation. Demonstrates analytical thinking. Is open-minded, flexible, and self-directed.

Working Conditions:

Primary office environment. Potential limited exposure to chemicals, radiation, hazardous materials, and bodily fluids.

Physical Requirements: Able to access entire facility. Able to lift and transport patients, supplies, and equipment. Demonstrates manual dexterity, hearing acuity, and verbal ability. Displays the ability to stand for long periods of time as well as walking, lifting, bending, and stooping during the workday. Has efficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time.

Psychosocial Requirements: Candidate must be able to deal with frustration and stress appropriately. In addition, able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing and displays advanced interpersonal skills.

Other:

The Pharmacy, Nutrition and Therapeutics Committee and Director of Pharmacy have approved access to medications and related supplies (IV fluids, needles, etc.), which may or may not include access to a secure medication storage area, when such access is necessary to perform the other duties included in this job description.
