Painter Tech III (First Class)

About This Position

The Painter Tech III is a highly skilled position responsible for performing advanced surface preparation and applying coatings on various metal components and assemblies. This role ensures that all finished products meet compnay standards for quality, appearance, and durability. The Painter Tech III is expected to operate with minimal supervision, lead by example, and assist with training lower-level painter technicians when needed.

Position Responsibilities

  • Works safely in an industrial environment and around machinery; observes and instructs others in proper equipment use.
  • Follows all safety rules and regulation​​s as well as all company policies and procedures; uses/wears all required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for assigned tasks.
  • Reads and understands SDS sheets as well as application data sheets on all paint supplies; reads and understands technical materials used in the blasting and painting field.
  • Maintains confidentially of information.
  • Travels as required to customer sites to perform modifications and maintenance of equipment as needed.
  • Maintains level of work performance in accordance with DSC's standards and/or production deadline specifications with minimal supervision.
  • Meets all project deadlines; complete all assignments in a timely fashion to meet production deadlines.
  • Must possess enough mechanic tools to assemble and repair parts used in the blasting and painting process; maintains, repairs, assembles and tests any equipment associated with blasting and painting; performs preventative maintenance and repairs to tools used in the blasting and painting field.
  • Diagnoses problems with any portion of a completed painted product and install/repair as needed.
  • Diagnoses problems with any portion of the blasting process and make recommendations for solutions; able to sand blast material to the correct profile per job specifications.
  • Applies all paint materials according DSC and/or manufacturer specifications.
  • Assists subordinates in completing all aspects of blasting and painting, at a first class level, to ensure completion of projects.
  • Assists with ordering parts for repairs/assembly and completion of work as needed.
  • Assists with maintaining updated journals of work progress on all jobs; including all paint and paint related materials needed.
  • Trains and evaluates new employees in the department as needed.
  • Works overtime and/or weekends as requested.
  • Maintains a clean, safe and organized work area at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4-5- years of applicable painting experience in a similar industry.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge in the use of certain tools such as wet mill gauge, dry mill gauge, airless spray gun, cup gun, wash gun, hand sander and blasting nozzle.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment; confined spaces, working at heights, and use of half-face and full-face respiratory equipment.
  • Experience with blasting and painting (epoxy, coal tar and urethane).

  • Must be able to successfully pass all pre-employment testing (drug test, physical, audiogram, pulmonary function test, respiratory fit test) in addition to random drug and alcohol testing.
