Full-time, 30-40 hours/week, 8am-5pm, hours may vary.

Benefited position after 60-day waiting period.

Job Summary: The Charge Nurse at PPL Assisted Living is responsible for organizing and overseeing all aspects of resident care, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining a safe, supportive environment. This role involves supervising nursing staff, providing direct care, conducting resident assessments, and managing medication administration. The Nurse Manager collaborates with medical providers, residents, families, and the Administrator to promote quality care and resident well-being.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards for assisted living, monitor progress toward quality goals, and assess resident and family satisfaction.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate nursing staff; manage staff scheduling and provide educational opportunities to ensure proficiency in resident care.
  • Deliver direct resident care, including medication administration, promoting independence, ensuring safety, and supporting resident participation in activities; regularly serve as the primary nurse on shift and fill in during staff shortages.
  • Conduct comprehensive resident assessments, evaluate prospective residents for placement, lead multidisciplinary care conferences, and perform self-medication evaluations.
  • Shares responsibility for 24-hour professional nursing availability and coordinate care with medical providers to meet resident needs.
  • Promote safety for residents and staff by reviewing incident reports, responding to immediate concerns, managing infection control, and addressing environmental issues with the Administrator.
  • Ensure complete and accurate documentation of care, resident status changes, and regulatory compliance by nursing staff.
  • Oversee medication administration processes, ensure staff adherence to policies, and arrange annual renewal of all medication orders.
  • Perform Med Aide duties as needed and carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the Administrator.
  • Take part in quality/safety/ infection control improvement initiatives projects by observing/reporting/engaging/resolving any concerns or issues.
Requirements:

EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing. Current licensure in Nebraska as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse and be CPR certified.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience in dealing with elderly populations and staff supervision is preferred.

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL MOTOR SKILLS:

  • Ability to operate computer systems, talk in person on the telephone, hear in person and on the telephone, vision for close work, use of photocopier, fax machine, computer.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to interact appropriately and professionally with patients, clinic staff, physicians, hospital staff, and the general public.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be able to Lift 50lbs. Requires setting, walking, standing, ability to be mobile, some bending, stooping, stretching and lifting, Requires eye and hand coordination and manual dexterity. Requires ability to move freely within the hospital setting to conduct job duties.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES:

  • Ability to process information and to effectively communicate with others.

ESSENTIAL SENSORY ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to visually receive and interpret nonverbal communications and to hear spoken communication with others.

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS:

  • May include, but not limited to electric shock and burns, exposure to medications and other chemical agents. Possible physical abuse by residents. Exposure to airborne and/or blood borne pathogens. Possibility of needle injury. Cleaning chemicals and liquid antibacterial hand soap. May also have exposure to pets.
