About the Role:

Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, the Research Technician provides essential technical, logistical, and administrative support for field and laboratory-based research at the CISWP. This role support the successful execution of applied research projects through participation in data collection, preparation, processing, equipment maintenance, and adherence to established research protocols

Work Location & Schedule:

  • Regular schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • On-site at CISWP office located at 25 Reuter Drive, Cambridge, ON or at a field collection site across Ontario.
  • Travel within Ontario will be required

Key Responsibilities:

Field and Laboratory Research Support
  • Support qualitative and quantitative data collection activities, including fieldwork, surveys, interviews, and laboratory-based measurements
  • Assist with data management processes, including data entry, cleaning, preparation, and processing or analysis under the guidance of senior research staff
  • Provide technical and logistical support during field and lab data collection activities to ensure accurate and efficient research operations
  • Develop proficiency in the calibration, troubleshooting, and assembly of human measurement research equipment and technologies
  • Recruit, prepare, and inform research participants, ensuring clear communication of study procedures and adherence to CISWP project protocols
  • Support CISWP's extensive field research programs such as DOSE and MOSAIC.

Research Logistics and Resource Preparation

  • Assist in monitoring and reaching research participant recruitment goals and targets to ensure project timelines are objectives are met
  • Support the identification and preparation of research equipment, supplies, and training requirements necessary for project execution
  • Assist in delivering basic training on research tools, equipment, and procedures to co-op students and research assistants
  • Help ensure research equipment is properly maintained, stored, and operationally ready for use in accordance with established protocols

Knowledge Transfer and Communication

  • Support the planning and delivery of webinars, workshops, and project-related networking events to facilitate knowledge sharing and partner engagement
  • Assist in preparation of technical content for reports, presentations, website materials, and Knowledge Transfer and Exchange (KTE) initiatives
  • Contribute to the development of social media content and research success stories related to CISWP projects and outcomes

Research Engagement and Collaboration

  • Provide logistical and technical support for meetings with industry, government, and academic partners to facilitate effective collaboration and shared opportunities
  • Support collaborative research initiatives and stakeholder engagement activities as required to advance project objectives
  • Other duties as assigned in support of research programs and organizational priorities

Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following or a related field:
      • Biomedical Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Human Factors & Ergonomics, Kinesiology, Biomechanics
    • Minimum two (2) years of related experience (inclusive of co-op or internship experience)
    • Demonstrated experience with human measurement techniques, including 3D scanning and wearable sensor technologies, is considered an asset
    • Experience supporting technical field-based data collection, including setup and protocol compliance in diverse environments is considered an asset
    • Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software is considered an asset
    • Familiarity with surveys, interviews, observational research, and self-reported and physical measurement data collection methods
    • Skilled in troubleshooting and calibrating measurement equipment, with experience identifying sources of error, validating data integrity, and restoring functionality of precision instruments used in human measurement and research
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills demonstrated through effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, clear and respectful interaction with research participants, and professional coordination with external partners to support project objectives
    • Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout Ontario
