JOB TITLE: Research Assistant

POSITION STATUS: Full-Time, one-year contract

LOCATION: Sault Ste. Marie

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Dr. Tamanna Rimi, Director of Research

START DATE: Immediately

END DATE: One year after start date

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

WAGE: $34,000 - $36,000

Primary Function:

NORDIK Institute is an innovative, community-based research hub dedicated to building

healthy, resilient communities. We are seeking a thoughtful and motivated Research Assistant

to support a range of interdisciplinary projects focused on health and community well-being,

economic resilience, and inclusive development.

This role involves contributing to applied research, data analysis, project development and

community engagement activities across multiple initiatives. The ideal candidate is comfortable

working at the intersection of research, policy, and practice, and is passionate about generating

evidence that informs real-world decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

● Support project development and contribute to funding applications

● Assist in developing toolkits and educational/training materials

● Assist in the development of tools, frameworks, and resources that support community

engagement planning and outreach

● Assist in designing and implementing surveys, interviews, and focus groups

● Analyze and synthesize complex data into clear, actionable insights

● Contribute to report writing, knowledge mobilization, and presentation of findings

● Engage with community partners and stakeholders to support collaborative research

processes

● Support project coordination, timelines, and deliverables across multiple initiatives

Skills Preferred:

● Knowledge of research methods in health and social sciences

● Experience with community-based or participatory research approaches

● Familiarity with survey tools (e.g., SurveyMonkey) and data analysis software (e.g.,

SPSS, Stata, R, Python, Excel)

● Strong research and report writing skills

● Familiarity with computer word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications

and videoconferencing applications (Google Meet, Zoom, or WebEx)

● Knowledge of Northern Ontario contexts

● Strong written and oral communication skills

Qualifications:

The candidate should possess a degree in Economics, Health Science, Health Economics,

Public Policy, Statistics, Community Economic and Social Development, or related fields.

Candidate Eligibility:

To be eligible to participate in the NOHFC Internship, individuals must:

● Be new entrants into the work force, are transitioning to a new career, or be unemployed

or underemployed who are entering a new field;

● Have not previously participated in a NOHFC-funded internship;

● Be at least 18 years of age; and

● Reside, and be legally entitled to work, in Canada.
