Job Description
The Learning Specialist is a key role in achieving a vision for truly inclusive, joyful and rigorous learning. They will work primarily with students who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP), providing students individualized and targeted support to access the curriculum, to engage productively with peers, and to thrive at school. The Learning Specialist will provide specialized academic instruction and will support the development and implementation of academic, behavioral and social emotional learning plans for students across Tiers of Support through close collaboration with general education teachers, students, families, school leadership and a multidisciplinary Diverse Learners Team. Beyond provision of direct interventions and services, the Learning Specialist acts as case manager for students with IEPs. As a member of the Diverse Learners Team, the Learning Specialist plays a key role to help build and guide us toward a vision of inclusion and ensuring all students’ needs are met across our school. This is a full-time position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Design and deliver individualized academic and behavioral interventions aligned to student needs
● Provide Specialized Academic Instruction (SAI) through co-teaching, small group, and 1:1 settings
● Deliver Behavioral Intervention Services using research-based, MTSS-aligned strategies
● Plan and share lesson plans/intervention arcs to support team alignment
● Use authentic and norm-referenced assessments to monitor progress and inform instruction
● Systematically track and analyze student data to guide decisions
● Develop and manage IEPs in collaboration with team members
● Conduct standardized assessments and contribute to evaluation reports
● Ensure compliance: timelines, documentation, and service delivery
● Communicate regularly with caregivers ● Monitor implementation of accommodations/modifications across settings
● Track and report progress toward IEP goals
● Coordinate with providers and leadership to ensure services meet state/federal requirements
● Facilitate collaboration across grade-level teams and related service providers
● Partner with educators to implement accommodations, modifications, and inclusive systems
● Build staff capacity in differentiation, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and inclusive practices
● Support development of safe, supportive, and culturally responsive learning environments
● Contribute to Tier 1 and Tier 2 systems through teams (e.g., COST, Culture & Climate)
● Participate in ongoing professional development and coaching to support growth and team goals
