Role:
To preserve the Credit Union's assets by controlling all repossession activity through the liquidation of collateral. This position is responsible for mitigating additional losses and negotiating to bring delinquent accounts current.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
45% Ensures timely processing of all repossessions as outlined in the collection policy and procedures. Handles cancellations of indirect and direct products on repossessions and processes dealer buyback, product cancellation, and auction proceeds.
20% Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of all applicable laws and repossession practices. Successfully and completely processes repossessions in accordance with all federal and state laws.
10% Performs trend reporting on repossessions, collateral liquidations, and redemptions. Responsible for providing reports to management, including but not limited to collateral out for repo, collateral picked up, collateral sold at auction, and charge-offs.
10% Performs monitoring of CPI reports, including the Estimated Loan Loss report, reviews add-on premiums, and posts manual add-ons, refunds, and exclusions as needed. Ensures benefits of CPI agreement, including but not limited to filing skip claims, are fully utilized to minimize losses for the CU.
5% Analyzes members' financial situation and negotiates payment arrangements to bring loans current.
5% Maintains vendor relationships, including 3rd party attorneys, auctions, skip trace, repossession companies, and collateral protection insurance providers. Makes recommendations to add/remove/change vendors to maximize recoveries.
5% Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements:
1. Monitors outside attorneys, repossession companies, and auctions to ensure they meet credit union service standards, expectations, and turnaround time.
2. Adhere to provisions outlined in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, ensure collection activity adheres to Credit Union policy and procedures, and is in accordance with federal and state laws.
3. Effectively negotiates arrangements to cure delinquent accounts to prevent additional losses.
4. Effectively and efficiently manages the liquidation of collateral to reduce future losses. Utilizes experience and judgment to determine if collateral should be repaired or sold as is and provides a recommendation to the VP of Collections.
5. Complies with all applicable rules, regulations, and policies, including but not limited to BSA, OFAC, and Physical Security.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience Five years to eight years of similar or related experience.
Education (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) completion of specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program or (4) CARS or RSIG certifications
Interpersonal Skills Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
Other Skills Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze complex information. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook required. Fully knowledgeable of and able to communicate with members about credit bureau reports and credit histories, risk-based lending scores, invoice and wholesale values of collateral, lien perfections, loan and deposit rates, credit union policies and procedures, and loan decisions.
Physical Requirements
Work Environment The position is based in-office in our Pensacola, FL market, operates primarily in an office setting, and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and phones. This position requires consistent presence in the office to effectively collaborate with team members and fulfill job responsibilities. It requires the ability to actively participate in conference calls and meetings with other Credit Union team members and vendors. The normal expected work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30a.m. to 5:00p.m. Occasional after-hours work or travel may be required to meet project deadlines or attend conferences, seminars, or client meetings. Must adhere to safety rules and regulations.
