Position Overview:
SUNY Ulster, a two-year branch of the State University of New York located ninety miles north of New York City in the Catskill Mountains, is currently accepting applications for an Athletic Director.

The Athletic Director reports to the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and is responsible for providing leadership, management and administration of the athletic program to ensure it is a robust source of student engagement and development.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervises, evaluates, and supports athletic department personnel, including coaching staff and student aides, and participates in recruitment and hiring processes.
  • Participates in and supports coaching staff in recruitment efforts of student athletes in the external community and with area high schools as appropriate.
  • Assumes oversight of the Senate Gymnasium or delegate responsibilities as needed.
  • Effectively budgets and manages the financial administration of all athletic programs with responsible use of student fees as allocated by the Ulster County Community College Association.
  • Monitors and supports compliance with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), Region XV, and Mid-Hudson Conference requirements and standards, including weekly statistical reports and athlete eligibility.
  • Provides game-day statistics management as required for all region/conference games and facilitates stats for games.
  • Analyzes athlete participation and assesses ways of improving participation and academic success with coaches and with others across the College in the interest of supporting student athlete success.
  • Facilitates and manages an Athletics Department schedule (day, time, location) of athletic events and practices with head coaches, including practice and games.
  • Coordinates all staff for home athletic events, including student aide coverage, and acts as on-site supervisor for home athletic events as needed.
  • Maintains and updates the Athletics website, and serves as the primary liaison between the College, Ardor Sports, RefQuest, as well as NJCAA, Region XV, and the Mid-Hudson Conference.
  • Acts as the Athletics Health Care Administrator, including being the primary point of contact for health care and safety communications with NJCAA, maintaining accreditation with USCAH, managing CPR/AED certifications for all coaches and staff, and administering all concussion education training for student-athletes.
  • Works with Institutional Advancement on Athletics fundraising.
  • Provides information to Marketing for promoting Athletics programs, updates social media platforms with game recaps and upcoming events.
  • Provides additional services as deemed necessary by the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs.


Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Must have the ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience in collegiate athletics administration, coaching, or in a related administrative leadership position at an educational or other social institution.
  • Familiarity with NJCAA regulations, compliance and eligibility standards.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintain high academic standards for student athletes
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and travel as needed
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Excellent oral, interpersonal and written skills to effectively communicate with diverse internal and external college constituencies.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and implement programs and services that meet the needs of a diverse campus community.
  • Experience with Banner 9.


Salary:A starting salary of $57,400, with an excellent benefits package. This position is contingent upon adequate funding.

In addition, the College is closed on the day prior to Thanksgiving, and between December 26 - January, 1, known as the Holiday Curtailment.
