About the Role
The Technical Tax Reviewer works under the supervision of a principal or Client Manager and serves as an advanced technical resource for complex tax matters, with a primary focus on larger client groups (primary focus on A and B clients), partnership taxation, sophisticated entity structures, estate and trust returns, and tax law research.
This role provides high-level, detailed reviews of complex tax returns, provides review notes and internal technical training, analyzes technical issues, and supports tax planning and business consulting projects. This position does not require client management responsibilities (managed revenue) or business development expectations and is primarily responsible for delivering high-level technical review, practical client guidance, and internal development of seniors and staff.
What You’ll Do
- Review complex tax returns with emphasis on partnerships, multi-entity structures, pass-through entities, trusts and estates, and related planning and consulting projects.
- Research, analyze, and resolve advanced technical tax issues and clearly communicate conclusions and recommendations. Identify tax planning opportunities and technical considerations relevant to complex client structures.
- Explain complex tax concepts to team members in a practical, understandable way.
- Provide technical review and feedback to improve accuracy, consistency, and quality across tax engagements.
- Train current seniors and staff on technical tax topics, entity structures, and planning concepts. Mentor team members through real-time review comments, coaching conversations, and technical guidance.
- Collaborate with the broader tax team to support high-quality service delivery and consistent technical standards.
- Support multiple complex clients, projects, and deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail and judgment. Make recommendations to improve technical review processes, engagement efficiency, and team development.
- Provide timely, high-quality technical support that enhances client confidence and internal team capability.
- May serve in a client-facing support role as a “plus one” (but not required for the position)
- May serve in internal lead roles such as project management, pod leadership, tax training coordination, or workflow management as needed
What We’re Looking For
- Four-year accounting degree required
- CPA license preferred
- Five or more years of public accounting experience with significant exposure to complex tax engagements, seven to ten years of high-level experience required if no CPA license
- Proven advanced technical knowledge of partnership taxation, pass-through entities, and complex ownership structures
- Strong tax research, review, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical matters clearly
- Proficiency in tax, research, and related accounting software applications
