Job Description
About the Role:The Accounting Supervisor in our Fire, Life & Safety industry plays a pivotal role in managing and overseeing the financial operations to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This position is responsible for preparing detailed financial reports, analyzing budgets, and monitoring project costs to support strategic decision-making. The Accounting Supervisor will collaborate closely with project managers and other departments to track expenditures and forecast financial outcomes, ensuring projects remain within budget. Additionally, this role involves maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls specific to the construction sector. Ultimately, the Accounting Supervisor contributes to the financial health and sustainability of the organization by providing insightful financial analysis and maintaining robust accounting practices. Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience. Experience in the fire and life safety industry is a plus.Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and percentage of completion accounting.Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience with project management software and ERP systems used in construction.Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and other complex formulas.Prior experience in financial forecasting and budgeting.Familiarity with sales tax regulations in a multi-state environment is a plus.Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or a CPA candidate is a plus.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.Prepare and review all monthly journal entries and account reconciliations, including review of the general ledger detail, and verify proper and timely journal entries were created.Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.Daily cash management of inflows and outflows, including invoice intake, routing items for review, coordinating payment execution, and maintaining organized support documentation.Help improve and standardize finance operations over time, including document organization and maintaining clean trackers and files so others can quickly understand status and locate support.Monitor project budgets and costs, providing variance analysis and recommendations to management.Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, as well as industry-specific accounting standards.Coordinate and support internal and external audits, maintaining thorough documentation and records.Reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly.Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline financial processes and improve reporting accuracy.
