LPN Night Nurse in O'Fallon, Missouri at Abbey Senior Health

Summary of Position

Ensures the quality care of residents by providing direct nursing care and by supervising CNA's, CMT's, and other nursing assistants.

Essential Functions

1. Understand the importance of customer service and be willing to learn resident/relative satisfaction techniques.
2. Perform basic nursing skills knowledgeably and competently.
3. Supervise and evaluate all direct resident care and initiate corrective action as necessary.
4. Supervise response to resident's call for assistance.
5. Supervise the application and removal of all postural supports and restraints.
6. Perform and document a comprehensive assessment of each resident.
7. Document resident care provided and resident's response or lack of response to care provided.
8. Administer and document medications, within the scope of personal licensure and training, and treatments per the physician's order.
9. Identify resident problems and emergency situations, and initiate immediate "life saving" measures in the absence of a physician.
10. Listen to resident, family, or physician concerns and initiate corrective action and/or report concerns to Director of Nursing.
11. Observe, evaluate and document all changes in residents' conditions and notify physician when necessary.
12. Prepare nursing assistants' assignments and ensure that assistants are aware of resident care plans.
13. Conduct inspections of all nursing service functions to assure that quality control measures are continually maintained.
14. Identify safety hazards and initiate corrective action immediately.
15. Check meal trays to assure proper diet is served and residents are assisted as necessary.
16. Supervise passing of nourishments.
17. Counsel nursing assistants and recommend corrective action, when necessary, to the Director of Nursing.
18. Participate in the employee evaluation process by providing information on the clinical performance of nursing assistants to the Director of Nursing Service.
19. Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required, following established procedures.
20. Assure that an adequate amount of supplies and equipment are on hand to meet the day-to-day needs of the department.
21. Assume responsibility for compliance with federal, state and local regulations within the assigned unit.
22. Participate in survey inspections made by authorized government agencies and aid in implementing a plan of correction for deficiencies noted during these inspections.
23. Ensure that the nursing services Policies and Procedures manual is followed by the nursing services personnel.
24. Interpret existing policies and procedures to nursing assistants, restorative nursing assistants, residents, families and physicians.
25. Participate in resident care conferences as assigned.
26. Attend staff meetings, in-service classes and committee meetings as assigned.
27. Observe facility infection control procedures.
28. Observe facility safety policies and procedures.
29. Observe facility disaster preparedness procedures.
30. Observe Resident's Rights policies and maintain resident confidentiality.
31. Perform other duties as directed by the Director of Nursing.

Certifications, Licenses Necessary

Individuals holding this position must have graduated from an accredited School of Practical Nursing with a Diploma and be currently licensed by the Missouri State Board of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

The duties of this position entail category I occupational exposure. This means that the regular duties of this position involve exposure to blood borne pathogens. The recommended precautions are the use of gloves, gowns, protective eye wear, and masks and hand washing.
